Growing flowers has become a living habit for many people. Many friends and relatives around me like to grow some flowers and plants, and tending them when there is nothing else to do not only relaxes the mood but also passes the time, and seeing the potted plants you grow yourself growing healthily and then blooming beautiful flowers brings immense joy.

It is now autumn, which is also a period of rapid growth for many plants. Recently many flower growers have said that their bougainvillea has started to bloom and looks very beautiful, so today I will share with you the techniques for propagating bougainvillea by cuttings.

Bougainvillea is a woody plant that produces beautiful flowers every summer and autumn. Bougainvillea propagation is suitable in spring and autumn each year, by cuttings or grafting. Today I will share with you bougainvillea propagation by cuttings, and the method is very simple.

1 bougainvillea branch, 1 piece of sponge, roots in 7 days

It is now autumn, the weather is cool and the temperature is suitable, making it a good time to take bougainvillea cuttings. Generally choose healthy branches of the current year, cut them to a length of 10-15 cm, trim off all the lower leaves and branches, leaving only 1 pair of leaves at the top, then make a slanted cut at the bottom of the branch to leave a slanted opening, and soak the branch in a carbendazim aqueous solution for 3 minutes to sterilise and disinfect it.

Prepare a rectangular block of sponge, insert the bougainvillea branch into the sponge to a depth of about 3-5 cm, then place the bougainvillea in an empty dish, add a 0.2% aspirin aqueous solution to the dish, and put the dish in a ventilated, airy, cool place on the balcony. Change the water once every 3 days, and the bougainvillea will take root in one week. After two weeks of normal care, you can take the bougainvillea branch out of the sponge and plant the bougainvillea with roots in a flower pot.

To plant bougainvillea, choose a mixed soil used for growing flowers, generally using 2 parts humus soil, 1 part garden soil and 1 part river sand. After fully mixing, use it to plant bougainvillea. It is not only permeable and airy, but also rich in nutrients, and can meet the growth needs of bougainvillea.

When caring for young bougainvillea plants in winter, place them on a warm balcony with good light, so the plant can grow rapidly and overwinter smoothly. In spring, you can place it outdoors for care, so the plant's growth rate will speed up. Generally, if cultivation is reasonable and proper, the bougainvillea branches will bloom in the autumn of the second year.

In the process of caring for bougainvillea, fertilisation is very important. Generally in spring each year, supplement the plant with compound fertiliser; you can choose quick-acting compound fertiliser or organic fertiliser and bury it in the flower pot to promote plant growth. In summer and autumn, before the flowering period arrives, spray the bougainvillea once a week with a 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate aqueous solution, which can effectively promote the development of bougainvillea flower buds.
