I often get comments from gardening friends asking what garden soil is? Why can't garden soil be used for growing flowers? Actually, clay is what we usually call garden soil. As the name suggests, it is soil from fields, for example, the soil we dig up from grassland, or the leftover soil from construction sites!

The reason clay cannot be used for growing flowers is that its density is relatively high. After we water it, the whole potting soil is almost impermeable to air, and over time it will become dry and hard. Not only is the potting soil not breathable, it is also very difficult to water thoroughly. If it cannot be watered thoroughly, then the plant's roots cannot absorb water!

In that case, everyone can think about it: if clay is used to grow flowers, how could the flowers possibly be grown well?

Speaking of this, many gardening friends may say, aren't flowers planted in the ground all using clay? Why can they grow well? Let me tell everyone: for flowers planted in the ground, the space where the roots can spread is relatively large, and plant roots all have hydrotropism. Wherever there is a water source, they will grow toward it. In this way, their roots will grow relatively well developed. Once the roots are well developed, even if there are minor problems normally, the flowers can resist them!

Moreover, if planted in the ground, fallen leaves often drop to the ground. After weathering and decomposition, they become a kind of nutrient supplied to the plants. This is also why flowers planted in the ground can grow very well even without fertilizing!

So when we grow flowers, if it is indoor potted planting and we want to grow the flowers well, then it is best not to use clay, that is, garden soil, to plant them. Using some ordinary nutrient soil, or digging a little leaf mold from the park, is the best. If you don't have these soils on hand and can only use the original garden soil, then absolutely do not use only one kind of garden soil. At least more than half of river sand must be mixed in. Only in this way can basic looseness and air permeability be ensured!
