Air plants are the only plants on Earth that live entirely in the air
Air plants, also known as air grass, aerial pineapple and so on, are distant relatives of the pineapple we usually see, belonging to the same family but a different genus. They are also the only plants on Earth that live entirely in the air, so as long as the air conditions are good, air plants are very easy to grow. Even if you have killed succulents, pothos, or even cacti, which are all easy to grow, you will find it very hard to kill an air plant!
Air plants need neither soil nor hydroponics. The reason is that they simply do not rely on their roots. The organs that air plants use to absorb water and nutrients are their leaves. Their roots only play a supporting role, so they can attach themselves to rocks and tree branches, making a home wherever they happen to be!
Caring for air plants is very simple, and they usually will not dry out and die. However, too much water on the plant and poor air circulation can cause the core to rot. So try to place it in a ventilated environment, mist it with a spray bottle two to three times a week, and spray once a day when the weather is dry, as long as no water remains pooled on the leaves.
Air plants also bloom, but after they bloom they will die. It is not that they drop dead immediately as rumored, but they will slowly decline, and this process may last two to three years.
When we browse flower markets, we often see blooming air plants, and their unique flower shapes really catch the eye. But in fact, this is the result of ripening with ethylene. If you also want your air plant to bloom quickly, you can try putting the air plant and a rotting apple together in a sealed environment.
