Growing osmanthus at home brings "noble offspring" - teaching you to grow a potted osmanthus from "1" branch in 30 days
You often hear people around you say that growing osmanthus at home can bring noble offspring; actually this is just a beautiful symbolic meaning, but for flower lovers who like osmanthus, growing a potted osmanthus at home is the best thing possible. It is now autumn, which is also when osmanthus blooms, with a rich fragrance. The weather is cool now, which is also suitable for cuttings and grafting of osmanthus.
Today I will share with you how to grow a potted osmanthus from one branch in 30 days. In the process of propagating potted osmanthus, cuttings and grafting are mainly used to obtain potted plants.
Obtaining potted osmanthus through cuttings
When taking cuttings to obtain potted osmanthus, first choose vigorous branches of the current year, cut a tender branch of about 10 cm, trim off all the leaves at the bottom, leaving only 3-4 leaves at the top, cut the bottom cut end of the branch at an angle, and soak the trimmed branch in a 0.2% rooting powder water solution for 5 minutes.
Prepare a flower pot and a mixed soil for growing flowers, insert the soaked osmanthus branch into the moist soil, cover the flower pot with a piece of plastic wrap, and place the pot in a cool place for 1 week; the osmanthus branch will take root and adapt to the pot, then remove the plastic wrap, place the pot in a balcony spot with scattered light, and care for it normally for 1 month; the osmanthus branch will quickly grow new shoots and become a small potted osmanthus.
Obtaining potted osmanthus through grafting
To grow potted osmanthus, the fastest method is to obtain a potted plant through grafting. Generally, cut a 3-5 cm long current-year osmanthus branch, trim off the leaves at the bottom, leaving only 1-2 leaves at the top; then prepare a tree species similar to osmanthus, generally using privet (Ligustrum), small-leaf privet (Ligustrum quihoui), or ash (Fraxinus) as the grafting rootstock. Place the grafted potted plant in a cool place and care for it for about 1 week; the branch will gradually begin to grow. In later care, appropriate pruning and wiring can be carried out to make the plant into a small osmanthus bonsai, which can not only bloom, but also has a beautiful shape and very high ornamental value.
In daily care of potted osmanthus, it is best to place it on a ventilated balcony, or directly place it outdoors for care; let the osmanthus receive all-day sunlight and water it normally. Generally in spring and summer, give the potted osmanthus a supplement of compound fertilizer once every two weeks to promote the growth of branches and leaves. Before the autumn flowering period, give the osmanthus a supplement of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer once a week; it is recommended to use monopotassium phosphate, which can promote the development of osmanthus flower buds, and at the flowering period it can produce more and more beautiful flowers.
These two methods can be used to obtain potted osmanthus. Cuttings are simpler, while grafted plants grow faster. Everyone can propagate potted osmanthus according to their own conditions and preferences.
