Cymbidium orchids originated in India, and world varieties were developed through hybridization in China

Cymbidium orchids are also called Himbi orchids and cicada orchids. They are plants of the Orchidaceae family, genus Cymbidium. They are some of the more strongly epiphytic large-flowered species in the genus Cymbidium native to India, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, southern China and other regions, as well as artificial hybrids mainly obtained using these original species as parents.
Cymbidium orchid petals are very large, with a diameter reaching up to 10cm, hence the name "large-flowered" cymbidium. There are many varieties, reaching over a thousand. They are a variety group bred through more than a hundred years of multi-generation artificial hybridization among large-flowered epiphytic species, small-flowered pendulous species, and some terrestrial orchids in the genus Cymbidium.Cymbidium orchid leaves are long and emerald green, and the flowers are rugged in posture, bold and magnificent. They are a world-famous "new star of orchids." They have the subtle fragrance and elegance of Chinese orchids, as well as the richness and colorfulness of foreign orchids. They sell very well in the international flower market and are deeply loved by flower enthusiasts.
Cymbidium orchid plants are upright, with flower stems erect or pendulous, and large, brightly colored flowers. They are mainly used for potted ornamental display. They are suitable for placement on indoor flower stands, balconies, and windowsills, appearing more elegant and luxurious, with high taste and charm. If multiple plants are combined into a large potted display, they are suitable for decorating hotel lobbies, shopping malls, railway stations, and airport halls, with extraordinary grandeur and eye-catching appeal. Cymbidium orchids are loved by people for their majestic plant posture and huge flowers.
For planting cymbidium orchids, pay attention to the following points:
Cymbidium orchids have relatively high water quality requirements. They prefer slightly acidic water and are relatively sensitive to calcium and magnesium ions in water. Irrigation with rainwater is most ideal. During the growing period, relatively high air humidity is needed. If humidity is too low, plant growth and development are poor, roots grow slowly and become small and fine, leaves become thick and narrow, and leaf color tends toward yellow. Overall, cymbidium orchids are afraid of dryness, not moisture.
Light is an important factor affecting the growth and flowering of cymbidium orchids. Among orchids, cymbidium orchids belong to the light-loving category. Sufficient light is beneficial for leaf production, formation of flower stems, and flowering. With too much shading, leaves become slender and thin, cannot stand upright, pseudobulbs become smaller, they are prone to disease, and flowering is affected. In midsummer, shade 50%-60%; in autumn, more sunlight is beneficial for flower bud formation and differentiation. In winter rainy and snowy weather, adding supplementary light is extremely beneficial for flowering.
Cymbidium orchids prefer warm winters and cool summers. The suitable growth temperature is 10-25°C. A nighttime temperature of around 10°C is relatively good. Leaves remain green, flower buds grow and develop normally, flower stems elongate normally, and flowering occurs in February to March. If the temperature is below 5°C, leaves turn yellow, flower buds do not grow, the flowering period is delayed to April to May, and the flower stems do not elongate, affecting flower quality. If the temperature is around 15°C, flower buds suddenly elongate, flowering occurs in January to February, and the flower stems are soft and cannot stand upright. If the nighttime temperature reaches as high as 20°C, the leaf cluster grows luxuriantly, affecting flowering, and formed flower buds will also wither and turn yellow. In short, for cymbidium orchid flower bud formation, flower stem emergence, and flowering, a large temperature difference between day and night is required.
