More and more people love growing flowers, and many flower enthusiasts keep all kinds of plants and flowers at home, which can both beautify the environment and purify the air. Some flowering plants kept at home look spectacular and beautiful when in bloom. For example, clivia (Clivia miniata), Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera), kalanchoe (Kalanchoe blossfeldiana), African violet (Saintpaulia), and Chinese rose (Rosa chinensis) not only have bright flowers but also fill the air with fragrance.

Throw 1 piece of "ginger" into a pot, and it produces beautiful "large flower buds" - both attractive and easy to grow

The plant I am sharing with you today looks very similar to ginger; in fact, it belongs to the same ginger family (Zingiberaceae) as ginger. Because its flowers look very much like lotus flowers, it is called ginger lotus (Siam tulip, Curcuma alismatifolia). Its leaves are very similar to those of ginger, but it can produce beautiful large flowers that look very much like lotus blossoms, bright and impressive.

Ginger lotus is a bulbous flowering plant, generally planted in spring and growing through summer. Its flowering season is from June to August every year, and its flowers come in purple, pink, and white. The flowers are large and suitable for growing as ornamental potted plants.

In spring each year, you can bury the bulbs of ginger lotus in a flower pot. Generally, choose a pot with a diameter of about 10-20 cm and plant 2-3 bulbs in it. Plant the bulbs at a depth of 51010 cm, and use a mixed soil for flowers: 1 part garden soil, 1 part river sand, and 2 parts decomposed humus soil. After mixing thoroughly, it can be used for planting. Place the planted pot in a cool, shady spot and care for it for about a week, and the ginger lotus will take root and sprout.

In the daily care of ginger lotus, it needs to be placed on a balcony or terrace with good light to receive full sun, watered normally, and kept with moist soil. In summer, also supplement the plant with compound fertilizer, which can speed up leaf development and flower bud development. By June each year, the ginger lotus will grow large flower buds. For potted ginger lotus that is about to bloom, it needs to be moved to a balcony with scattered light for care, and the growing environment just needs to be ventilated and airy. Controlling watering can effectively extend the flowering period.

Besides taking root, growing leaves, and blooming every year, the bulbs of ginger lotus will also continue to multiply in the soil, growing more small ginger pieces. In winter, you can dig out the bulbs of ginger lotus, dry them in a cool, shady place, then wrap them in waste newspaper for storage, and continue planting them the following spring. In southern China, ginger lotus is a very good cut-flower plant, because its flowers are bright and beautiful and also large, making it a very good accent flower.

Besides growing ginger lotus as a potted plant, many flower enthusiasts in daily life also grow household ginger as a potted plant. Not only can it grow emerald green leaves, but by autumn you can also harvest a large pot of ginger. Flower lovers who like it can grow potted ginger lotus and ginger; they are not only for enjoying the flowers but also the leaves. As for growing potted ginger, it can also be harvested as edible ginger.
