Clivia is a flower that many people find difficult to grow. In fact, as long as you use the right methods, even the most difficult flowers can be grown well. In autumn, you need to learn to care for clivia this way.

Repotting

When autumn comes, pay attention to repotting your clivia. The size of the pot determines its growth. If the pot is too large, light cannot easily penetrate through it, and its root growth will be affected. If the pot is too small, the roots cannot spread out, and they will also be affected.

When choosing a pot, be sure to choose according to the size of the plant. When repotting, be careful to avoid damaging its roots, otherwise it may cause infection and affect its future growth.

Division

When repotting your clivia, you can also divide its plant. If its offsets have grown fairly large, you can separate them out.

For offsets growing from the roots, you can simply pull them apart by hand. For offsets growing at the stem nodes, you can use a knife to separate them, then sterilise and disinfect them, and pot them up. If an offset has no root system, you must first encourage it to root, and pot it up after roots have grown.

Light

In autumn, the light is no longer so intense. At this time, you can appropriately give your clivia a bit more light, which is beneficial to its growth.

Fertiliser

Plants that have reached flowering age will mostly begin to form flower buds in autumn, so at this time their demand for nutrients is very high. You should apply extra phosphorus and potassium fertiliser.

If you are applying solid fertiliser, be sure to keep it away from the roots when applying, to avoid damaging the roots while fertilising and letting the fertiliser burn the plant's roots.

Cold protection

In autumn, the temperature difference increases noticeably. Sometimes the weather is hot, sometimes it is very cold, and the day-night temperature difference also increases. At night, be sure to close doors and windows properly to keep cold wind from blowing on your clivia.

In late autumn, if conditions at home allow, you can put up some straw curtains over the doors and windows. This can keep cold wind from blowing on your clivia and prevent it from freezing.
