Complete Guide to Home Flower Growing
Teacher Xiaoye teaches you all kinds of flower-growing knowledge!
Recently many flower friends have been asking Xiaoye in the backend, saying they don't know how to fertilize their flowers this season, or what kind of fertilizer suits their flowers. A couple of days ago Xiaoye was at home preparing materials, so today let's talk about the difference between DIY flower fertilizer and nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers! Guaranteed you'll learn it right away and understand it at a glance!
NO.1 Nitrogen fertilizer promotes the growth of branches and leaves, essential for lush foliage!
The main role of nitrogen fertilizer is to promote the growth of branches and leaves of flowers and green plants. When plants lack nitrogen fertilizer, they show stunted growth, sparse and lusterless leaves, and are prone to yellowing leaves! So if you want your own flowers to grow more and more luxuriant, nitrogen fertilizer is essential!
Where does nitrogen fertilizer come from?
Actually, the sources of nitrogen fertilizer in our daily life are very wide. Rotten soybeans, spoiled milk and okara are all rich in nitrogen, and using them to make nitrogen fertilizer is very suitable! Below, Xiaoye will use soybeans to demonstrate the method of making nitrogen fertilizer! (The others are all much the same)
Method of operation:
1. Don't throw away spoiled soybeans at home. After boiling the soybeans, put them into a clean empty bottle!
2. If you have spoiled milk or expired soy milk at home, you can pour it in together with the boiled soybeans and add clean water. If not, just add 2/3 clean water, then place it in a sunny, ventilated spot and let it ferment for about 30 days!
3. If you're worried about odors, you can add some orange peel to the bottle. After the fermented fertilizer is diluted 20-30 times, it can be used to water flowers. Once the flowers have drunk their fill of nitrogen fertilizer, the leaves will absolutely be glossy and grow more and more luxuriant!
NO.2 Phosphorus fertilizer promotes the formation of flower buds, essential for brightening flower color!
The main role of phosphorus fertilizer is to promote the formation of flower buds, brighten flower color and promote fruiting. Sufficient phosphorus fertilizer can promote the growth of the flower's root system and enhance the flower's drought and cold resistance! So if you want flowers to produce plenty of buds and have a more developed root system during the flowering period, you must supplement more phosphorus fertilizer!
Where does phosphorus fertilizer come from?
In daily life, the bones left over from our meals, animal manure, coconut coir and rice bran are all rich in phosphorus fertilizer. Below, Xiaoye will use bone meal to demonstrate the method of making phosphorus fertilizer! (The others are all much the same)
Method of operation:
1. Collect the bones left over from meals at home, boil them in clean water for 20 minutes to remove salt, then put them in the sun to dry for 2-3 days to remove the moisture from the bones!
2. Use a small hammer to crush the dried bones into bone fragments, the finer the better, to make later fermentation easier!
3. The crushed bone powder can be directly buried in the flower pot 6-8 cm away from the root system. Put larger bone fragments into an empty bucket, add 2/3 rice-washing water or clean water, seal it well and place it in the sun to ferment for 30-40 days, then dilute 30-50 times before use!
NO.3 Potassium fertilizer promotes strong stems, essential for resistance to pests and diseases!
Potassium fertilizer promotes strong stems, can improve the plant's resistance to pests and diseases and lodging, and makes the root system more developed! When flowers lack potassium fertilizer, spots appear on the edges of the petals, leaf edges turn yellow, and the flowers have poor resistance and are prone to pests and diseases!
Where does potassium fertilizer come from?
The leftover tea and wood ash water from daily drinking are all excellent potassium fertilizers. The most representative organic potassium fertilizer is wood ash. Today, Xiaoye teaches everyone how to make wood ash.
Method of making:
1. Burn dry branches or dry grass into wood ash.
2. When the charcoal has burned black, extinguish it with water.
3. Put the extinguished wood ash into the flower pot. Each time you water, the wood ash will soak into the flower pot, and the flowers can fully absorb the potassium fertilizer!
The 3 DIY flower fertilizer methods described above are all very practical. If flower friends find this kind of fermentation troublesome, or think the fermentation process smells bad and is unclean, Xiaoye recommends using 20g of microbial inoculant. When using it, dig a small hole 2-3 cm deep in the potting soil, bury it in and water thoroughly. The metabolic products of the microbes in the soil can decompose phosphorus and potassium elements, and the flowers will absolutely get a big boost from it, green, safe and it won't burn the roots!
