Autumn is here, the summer heat has faded, and Clivia has gradually resumed growth. Repotting and changing the soil is a must, and fertilizing is essential too. I wonder if the flower friends who grow Clivia have taken action yet? Quickly do it like Huahua, and in winter it will definitely bloom.

If Clivia is not repotted, it will not grow at all for 1 year

The harm of not repotting:

When we care for Clivia, we should, according to

the plant's growth, continuously increase the size of the pot. If it is not moved to a larger pot, its fleshy roots will become too crowded, and this will affect nutrient absorption!

In addition, if Clivia is not given fresh soil for a long time, the nutrients in the soil will gradually be used up, and the longer the time, the worse the soil's air permeability. Autumn is exactly the good season for repotting and changing soil, so flower friends must not miss it!

1. Preparation before changing the soil

Before changing the soil, we should first do the preparatory work. According to the size of the pot, stop watering in advance. By withholding water, we reduce damage to the root system when changing the soil.

Prepare the replacement soil. We can use leaf mold soil and pine needle soil, adding a small amount of perlite and charcoal.

2. While changing the soil

Take the Clivia out of the pot, remove the soil ball, cut off rotten and hollow roots, smear the wounds with plant ash, let it dry for a while, and then repot it.

Choose a good pot, first spread a layer of base soil on the bottom of the pot, then turn the plant upside down, hold the roots of the Clivia with your hand, and first fill soil into the root ball (the spaces between the roots).

Then hold the root system together with the soil wrapped around it and place it in the middle of the pot, then fill the space around the roots with soil. After filling, press the soil firmly along the edge of the pot, but do not press the soil in the middle where the roots are.

When changing the soil, we can also mix fried hemp seeds, decomposed cake fertilizer, and bone meal into the soil as base fertilizer. Note that the amount must not be too large, and it must not come into direct contact with the roots.

3. Care after changing the soil

After the plant is potted, water it thoroughly immediately, and place it in a well-ventilated place that does not get direct sunlight so it can recover. After a week, it can be cared for normally!

Clever division of Clivia can give you two more pots!

Generally, plants over 4 years old can produce offsets at the leaf area. When they grow to 5~6 leaves, we can divide them, and this can be done at the same time as repotting in autumn!

When dividing, separate the new plant together with its fleshy roots from the mother plant, cut it off with a knife in one stroke, apply plant ash to the cut, and repot after the wound dries.

If the new small offset has not grown fleshy roots, we do not need to worry. We can cut it off directly and root the small offset by cuttings, then pot it after it roots.

Fertilize Clivia more, and the leaves will be glossy green!

For base fertilizer, we can apply the fertilizers written above for changing soil. If flower friends do not want to repot this season, we can bury decomposed cake fertilizer and bone meal 2cm deep in the soil. Still be careful not to let it come into direct contact with the roots.

For top dressing, generally liquid fertilizer is applied. You can apply fermented soybean cake water or fishy water once every half month.

Starting from October, the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer can be increased to promote the plant to send up a flower stalk and bloom. Generally apply it 2~3 times, and once the flower stalk has truly emerged, that is enough.

Huahua reminds you:

When fertilizing, we should control the amount well. It is better to use less than too much, and better to use a light concentration than a strong one!

Give Clivia a chill, and the flower stalk will grow rapidly!

If you want Clivia to bloom smoothly, the first thing is to fertilize as mentioned above. In autumn, be sure to increase phosphorus and potassium fertilizer to promote blooming.

The second point is appropriate low temperature (5~10°C). In winter, do not move it indoors too early. It is better to keep the temperature a bit low without freezing damage.

After that, move it indoors and increase the day-night temperature difference. After the stalk emerges, keep the temperature at around 20°C. If the flower stem is emerging and the temperature is below 15°C, it will get stuck.

The third point: summer has passed, and light intensity is weakening. We should appropriately increase sunlight exposure so the plant can differentiate flower buds smoothly!

Has your Clivia been repotted?

Quickly seize the good time of autumn
