Answer

You bought a snake plant online and planted it in river sand, and root rot has appeared. It is probably not caused by soil compaction. It may be that you watered too frequently this past month, or kept the snake plant's soil moist and poorly ventilated for a long time without maintaining good air circulation, which caused your snake plant's roots to rot.

Based on your pictures, your root rot is fairly serious, but some roots still remain. You can let the roots dry out for a while, and once the wounds have healed, you can replant it. To be safe, you can choose one healthy leaf for re-cuttings. That way you will not end up losing everything in the end.

However, leaf cuttings for snake plants are usually taken between May and July; leaf cuttings have also been successful in other seasons, so you can adjust this as you see fit. For cuttings, the snake plant can be cut into segments (5-8cm), or you can use a whole leaf. When cutting into segments for planting, be careful not to plant them upside down, otherwise they will not take root. After cutting, they usually take root in a little over twenty days to a month. Once a few small shoots have grown, they can be planted in separate pots.

Snake plants do not have high light requirements, but they must be planted somewhere with good air permeability. In addition, the soil used for planting should also be loose and well-draining.
