Christmas cactus looking "all wilted"? Water it with this "solution" and it revives in 1 week, with flower buds emerging after 30 days

It is now the cool autumn season, suitable for the growth of many flowers. Plants like the Christmas cactus are dormant during the hot summer weather, and only when the cool autumn arrives do they wake from dormancy and grow normally. Some growers report that their Christmas cactus at home still has soft, wilted leaves. In fact, when a Christmas cactus shows this condition, it is mainly due to insufficient fertilizing, poor lighting, or root rot, and you need to carry out the corresponding checks and improvements.

When the Christmas cactus wakes up in autumn and enters its growing period, you should first gradually place the plant in a spot with good lighting, then add fertilizer, so that the plant can gradually begin to grow. When the Christmas cactus leaves are still soft and drooping, you need to carry out the following three steps to improve it.

1. Check root health

When a Christmas cactus shows poor growth, you should first check whether the roots have rotted, because once the roots of a Christmas cactus rot, they cannot absorb nutrients, and naturally the leaves will droop and become weak. If the roots have rotted, you must prune them promptly, then repot and replace the soil, so the plant can grow safely. If there is no rot, then it is due to fertilizing and lighting.

2. Increase lighting

When lighting is poor, the leaves will also become abnormal. You need to move the Christmas cactus to a balcony with good lighting. If the plant has been in poor lighting for a long time during its earlier growth, you cannot move it directly into the sunlight; directly changing the light intensity will make the leaves grow poorly. The correct approach is to gradually increase the light for the plant, and finally place it on a balcony with good lighting.

3. Fertilize the plant and water it with the solution

Now is the period of rapid growth for the Christmas cactus, so you need to supplement it with fertilizer. Because winter is about to arrive, it is best to supplement it with phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. Use a 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate aqueous solution, spray it directly onto the Christmas cactus leaves, spraying once a week, so the leaf surface fully absorbs the phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. This not only promotes leaf growth, but also promotes the development of flower buds.

Warm tips

When caring for the Christmas cactus in autumn, some growers also place it directly outdoors to grow, which is also fine, but you must prevent rainwater from wetting the Christmas cactus leaves, as this can easily lead to infection of the leaves and localized rot. On rainy days, you should shelter outdoor potted plants from the rain.

Once the Christmas cactus leaves have improved and grown emerald green and firm, you should gradually increase the light for it. You can move the pot directly to a terrace or balcony to increase scattered light, which is very beneficial for the development of flower buds. After winter arrives, when the Christmas cactus flower buds gradually develop and it blooms, you should stop fertilizing. Keep it on a warm balcony in winter, and the Christmas cactus will be able to keep blooming.
