How to choose roses in Guangdong? These 15 are the top picks, blooming 10 months a year

Yesterday I introduced some roses suitable for balcony growing, and some flower friends left comments for Lanyao, hoping I could introduce a few roses suitable for growing in the greater Guangdong region.

Most roses like warmth but cannot tolerate intense heat, so they do not perform very well when grown in Guangdong. However, some varieties are relatively heat-tolerant and sun-tolerant, and they also perform well in the Guangdong and Guangxi regions, such as the following rose varieties.

Climbing Roses

Many flower friends report that large climbers bloom massively in spring in other regions, but when they reach the Guangdong and Guangxi regions it is a different story, often producing few or even no flowers, behaving exactly like a plant that only grows foliage.

If you are in the south and love climbing rose flower walls, then I recommend choosing these varieties, all of which perform very well in the south.

Red Dragon

Red Dragon is also called Red Eden, but it is not the same thing at all as Pink Eden. Red Dragon is a repeat-flowering upright large climber with robust growth and stiff canes.

The flowers of Red Dragon are usually purple-red or dark red, in a cup shape. When temperatures are high it has a faint fragrance. Grown in the south it can bloom from March all the way to December, but each flowering period lasts as long as a week. It is relatively heat-tolerant and sun-tolerant, and the flowers have a strong fragrance. Although it tends to fall apart in summer and the cupped flower shape is hard to maintain, it is still well worth having.

Nahema

Nahema, as a climbing rose with a vining habit, is very suitable for making flower arches, flower pillars and flower walls, and can repeat bloom over multiple seasons.

Romantic Climber BabyRomantic Climber Baby has very vivid flower colors, strong disease resistance, is cold-hardy and also heat-tolerant, and repeat blooms over multiple seasons, making it fairly floriferous. The flowers of Romantic Climber Baby are not large, about 8cm, and it performs well when grown in Guangdong.

Shrub RosesHaving covered climbing roses, let me now introduce a few shrub roses suitable for the southern region.

Jubilee Celebration

Jubilee Celebration is an Austin shrub rose, very floriferous, and can bloom from spring all the way to autumn. The flowers are large and open in clusters of multiple blooms, very beautiful.

Jubilee Celebration is not only floriferous but also very heat-tolerant; even in summer it blooms continuously, with a lemon fragrance. Highly recommended.

Cutting Juliet

There are two kinds of Juliet; what Lanyao is talking about here is Cutting Juliet. Cutting Juliet has relatively thick, upright canes and very large flowers; both half-open and fully open they look very good, and it is very floriferous.

Cutting Juliet is very heat-tolerant, blooming continuously even in summer, and the fully open flowers do not fall apart either, still retaining a very fine texture.

Monet

Monet's full name is Claude Monet. It is a floribunda shrub rose with very good disease resistance. The flowers are large and full, with stripes of their own.

Monet has a very high flowering frequency, giving the feeling that it never tires of blooming, and the flowers have a strong fragrance. It also performs very well in summer. The plant is not large, making it more suitable for courtyards with relatively little space or for growing in pots.

Masora

Masora is a tall plant with soft canes, and can be grown as a shrub or cultivated as a small climber. The flowers are large, the flower shape is beautiful, and the flower color is rich in variation: in spring it opens apricot-pink, in summer lemon-pink, with a fruity fragrance.

Pas de Deux Ballet
