Why can aloe sell for over 10,000 yuan? You'll understand after reading this

The flower market has been booming over the past two years. After all, more and more people are growing plants now. Even those who don't love flowers will keep a few pots of pothos and spider plants at home to purify the air. Most flowers on the market now are still fairly affordable, but occasionally some special plants appear with shockingly high prices.

For example, there is a type of aloe that can sell for over 10,000 yuan. We all know aloe is an easy-to-grow green plant, and the aloe gel inside is greatly beneficial to health. But ordinarily, aloe on the market sells for at most a few dozen yuan per pot. So why does this type of aloe sell for such a high price? If you're interested, take a look with Huahua!

This aloe is called Aloe polyphylla (spiral aloe). Indeed, judging by appearance alone, Aloe polyphylla is much fuller than ordinary aloe, with leaves growing one after another in a spiral, looking very imposing. No wonder it has the title of "queen" of the aloe world!

There are no more than three reasons why this aloe sells at such a high price.

1. Beautiful appearance

Ordinary aloe usually consists of just a few leaves, while this Aloe polyphylla has several times more leaves than other aloes, and they grow in a spiral, looking like a large blooming lotus. It cannot be denied that its ornamental value is indeed very high, and no wonder so many people spend a fortune just to buy one.

2. Rare species

This aloe is very rare, and few can be found anywhere in the world. If you want to buy one at a flower market, you really need to be lucky. Most of this Aloe polyphylla sold in our country is currently imported. Moreover, this aloe has a low reproduction rate, and one day in the future the Aloe polyphylla variety may disappear.

3. Difficult to care for

Aloe polyphylla grows extremely slowly. Growing from a small seedling into a full aloe takes at least three or four years. Slow growth means you need enough patience to care for it, but during its growth Aloe polyphylla can also develop yellowing and blackening leaves, making it very hard to keep alive. This is also why Huahua says its yield and reproduction rate are extremely low.

If a flower lover gets a pot of Aloe polyphylla, then remember that spring and autumn are its peak growing seasons, and during these two periods you must ensure it has plenty of fertilizer and water. The soil for growing Aloe polyphylla must have good drainage and air permeability. It likes water, so try to choose a cool morning or evening for watering, and never water it at noon!

Perhaps because it originally grew in hot and humid regions, Aloe polyphylla cannot grow without sunlight, and the stronger the sunlight, the more vigorously it grows. During its growing period, try to apply phosphorus fertilizer once every month and a half to ensure the nutrients needed for growth.

Aloe polyphylla is beautiful but not easy to grow, so flower lovers who like it should think carefully before buying, since it is quite an expense after all. If you know of any other sky-high-priced plants or flowers, feel free to leave a message and share with Huahua in the comments section!
