Growing Clivia like this in autumn gives you glossy green leaves and brilliant blooms

Clivia's main flowering period is spring and summer, but some flower lovers may find that Clivia is actually a plant that can bloom all year round, and especially when it blooms outside its main flowering period, the effect is even more stunning.
Autumn has arrived, and winter is coming soon, so how should we care for our Clivia? For growing Clivia, we just need to adjust our methods according to the characteristics of the changing seasons, but for many flower lovers, this sensitivity to seasonal changes is still rather poor. Today Hua'er Gu is here to share with you how to grow Clivia in autumn, and also introduce the points to note when growing Clivia in autumn.
How to grow Clivia in autumn
In autumn, many plants gradually begin to enter their season of decline, but Clivia can still grow very vigorously. Below we briefly introduce the techniques for growing Clivia in autumn through watering, fertilizing, light, temperature and other aspects!
1. Watering
Watering is very, very important for any flower or green plant, and once watering is done improperly it can easily cause some problems. In autumn, as the temperature drops day by day, the water in the flower pot also gradually evaporates less, so when watering at this time you must first observe the potting soil, and only water when the potting soil is nearly completely dry, otherwise it is easy to cause waterlogging and root rot. As for how many days to water once, this actually needs to be adapted to local conditions; as long as we are good at observing, the right timing is within our grasp.
2. Fertilizing
Fertilizing is one of the sources of nutrients for Clivia's growth. After a period of growth, the nutrients in the soil gradually decrease, and at this time we need to supplement nutrients artificially to increase the various nutrients the plant needs for growth. For fertilizing, it is generally recommended to follow the principle of light fertilizer applied frequently, otherwise once fertilizer is applied excessively it will bring irreparable losses to Clivia's growth. We can use organic fertilizer and compound fertilizer to add nutrients to Clivia, and we can also buy some special fertilizer for Clivia. Avoid using fertilizers with a single nutrient, and especially avoid using too much nitrogen fertilizer. During the flowering period we need to increase the use of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, which can strengthen the plant's constitution and promote flower bud differentiation!
3. Light
In autumn, as the season progresses, light also gradually becomes less, so at this time we need to place Clivia in a spot with more ample light for growing, to avoid insufficient light having a negative effect on Clivia's photosynthesis. Generally speaking, Clivia only likes diffused light, but in autumn the light is relatively weak, so letting it receive some direct sunlight is very beneficial.
4. Temperature
From summer to autumn, and from autumn to winter, the unavoidable seasonal drop in temperature will cause discomfort to Clivia's growth, and when the temperature is too low it can easily lead to stalled growth or even frost damage. When the temperature is below 10°C we should place Clivia in a sheltered spot for growing, and if conditions permit we can put it indoors to protect it from the cold and keep it warm. Especially when we want to promote Clivia flowering, we had best maintain the temperature above 15°C.
Points to note when growing Clivia in autumn
1. Watering is what needs the most attention; try to avoid overwatering, and the watering interval must be longer than in summer.
2. Fertilizer must be applied as thinly as possible, otherwise it easily causes root burn!
3. Do not expose it to the cold outdoor environment just for more light; keeping the plant alive is the most important thing, otherwise once it suffers frost damage all previous efforts are wasted.
4. The soil for growing Clivia must be breathable and fertile, otherwise it easily leads to poor growth.
