[0020]What to do when rose buds wilt and wither? One trick to save them!

Roses bloom beautifully, so many people love growing them, and with more people growing them, naturally more problems appear. Today Lanyao will talk about a fairly common rose problem - wilting new buds.

I believe many flower lovers have encountered the problem of wilting new buds on roses, especially some beginner flower lovers, who are more prone to this problem. Lanyao also often receives inquiries about similar problems, so today I will analyze the problem of wilting new buds on roses in detail.

Wilting new buds on roses can be divided into many situations:

1. Wilting from lack of water in spring and autumn

In spring and autumn, roses grow vigorously, and at noon new branches easily wilt and droop. This is because the noon temperature is higher, transpiration is fast, the potting soil is relatively dry, and the water supply is insufficient. At this time, you should water promptly to replenish moisture.

2. Wilting from scorching sun in summer

Many flower lovers will notice that in late spring or summer, roses easily show wilted and drooping tender branches, but when checking the potting soil, they find the soil is not lacking water.

This is because rose new buds grow vigorously, and under strong light they easily suffer from insufficient water supply. Also, the new shoots are too tender to withstand the sun's scorching, so they show wilting and drooping.

There is no need to worry too much about this situation. If planted in the ground, you can leave it alone, or provide a little shade. If potted, as long as the potting soil is not lacking water, you can also leave it alone, or provide a little shade.

3. Wilting of the whole plant

Some flower lovers will find that their rose suddenly wilts as a whole plant. What is going on?

Fertilizer burn

When the soil of an entire pot of roses causes wilting, it is mostly a root problem.

If the whole plant wilts right after fertilizing, then you should first consider the possibility of fertilizer burn.

For whole-plant wilting caused by fertilizer burn, you should promptly water heavily to dilute the fertilizer concentration in the soil and relieve pressure on the roots. If the branches have already lost water severely, appropriate pruning should be done: remove severely dehydrated leaves and cut off shriveled branches.

Overwatering

Some flower lovers will find that their rose was fine two days ago, but after continuous watering it wilted, especially beginner flower lovers, who are most prone to this problem.

Roses are flowers that tolerate neither drought nor waterlogging. If the potting soil is too wet for a long time, it easily suffocates the roots, causing root rot and water deficiency in the rose, which then leads to whole-plant wilting.

For wilting caused by overwatering, you should promptly loosen the potting soil, then strengthen ventilation, and prune off flowers and flower buds to let the plant recover.

If the root suffocation is severe, you should dig out the rose, prune the rotten roots, soak it in fungicide and rooting powder, then replant it in clean soil.

4. Wilting of new buds after bare stems

Many beginner flower lovers, due to improper care, cause all the rose leaves to drop. After much effort, they finally wait for new rose buds to grow, only to find that the new buds are also gradually wilting and withering.......

In fact, when this happens, it is mostly still caused by overwatering. Because the rose leaves have all dropped, transpiration is weakened, and water consumption is also reduced. Too much water puts pressure on the rose roots, and can even cause root rot.

When the rose roots are not good, the new buds naturally cannot get good nourishment, and they will slowly wilt and wither.

For rose plants without leaves, you must be careful to control watering. It is better to let them be a bit dry than to water too much. For bare-stem roses, too much water is the easiest way for them to die.

5. Wilting of individual new branches

Sometimes, on our roses, only one or two new branches suddenly wilt and droop, while the other branches are all healthy.

When this happens, it is mostly due to damage from the rose stem sawfly. The rose stem sawfly lays eggs in the tender branches of the rose. After the eggs hatch, the larvae gnaw at the inside of the rose, causing water deficiency, and the tender rose branches then droop and wither.

If you discover this situation, you should promptly cut off the drooping branches. There is no way to save them; you can only cut them off as early as possible.

6. Wilting from long-term dryness

We also have flower lovers who, when growing roses, heard that they should not be watered too much, so they did not water for a long time. The day before yesterday, Lanyao also met a flower lover who consulted about exactly this situation: a small rose planted for nearly a month had never been watered, only misted, and its leaves were always wilted and listless.

This situation is a typical case of excessive drought. Because this flower lover misted every day, some water was replenished, which kept the small rose from dying of dryness.

I suggested she soak the pot. As a result, early the next morning she told me that her rose had really perked up again, haha.......

No matter how much a flower or potted plant dislikes water and loves dryness, you must not let the potting soil become too dry, otherwise it will cause severe water deficiency in the potted plant and wilting.
