Wind-phlegm asthma pattern must be guarded against at all times; never be careless

When it comes to asthma, most people think of young children and adolescents, and this is indeed because young children have weak resistance and are prone to allergic asthma and various other diseases. By the time they reach youth, as they go through puberty, healthy qi gradually becomes fuller, and along with the treatment of asthma and various other diseases, healthy qi advances while pathogenic qi retreats and the disease becomes hidden. If a relatively thorough treatment is carried out, many diseases will be cured, so the impression asthma leaves on people is that it is a childhood disease.
In fact, a portion of senile bronchitis is complicated by asthma, and this is asthma that has not been completely cured. This kind of senile bronchitis is very serious; even in mild cases, in the three seasons of spring, winter and autumn there is rapid breathing or even difficulty breathing, the respiratory tract always has phlegm congestion, and the breathing sound is like a saw being pulled. If it is not noticed, and one catches a cold without being aware of it, the condition worsens, with panting, chest fullness, and the breathing sound turning into a wheezing sound like whistling or flute playing, and so on.
People who are physically weak or suffer from chronic diseases often "catch a cold without being aware of it" when exposed to wind-cold, because such people do not show cold symptoms for a long time after catching a cold; instead, the cold symptoms are often fleeting, and there is even no fever (because there is almost no resistance left). What is directly reflected in their self-perception is the chronic disease symptoms they already have. Therefore, Professor Chen Yinkui, when appearing on Yangshengtang and in many speeches, said that "keeping warm is better than maintaining health." This is heartfelt advice for patients with chronic respiratory diseases.
Therefore, people who are usually weak and prone to illness, especially those with chronic respiratory diseases such as wind-phlegm and cold-phlegm asthma and bronchitis, should always pay attention to guarding against wind and cold; otherwise, in one cold after another, the condition will worsen, progressing to panting and fullness with inability to lie flat, orthopnea, wheezing while lying in bed, sticky phlegm that is hard to cough out or continuous frothy phlegm, a dark blue-green complexion, and so on. At this point the disease has already affected multiple organs and is close to the point of being beyond cure.
