Second World Bonsai Art Creation Convention (IPCC) & IBACB

Canberra National Botanic Gardens, Australia

The Second World Bonsai Art Creation Convention (IPCC) & the Second International Bonsai Art and Culture Biennale (IBACB) grandly opened on September 18, 2018 at the Canberra National Botanic Gardens in Australia. Mr. Fan Shunli of the Chinese Bonsai Artists Delegation was invited to give a lecture at the "Chinese Bonsai Forum". Mr. Fan spoke from the origins and development of Chinese bonsai to the current state of Chinese bonsai today, systematically introducing the development history of Chinese bonsai to Australian bonsai enthusiasts. He also comprehensively analyzed the unique artistic conception and charm of Chinese bonsai from the aspects of conception, theme and layout, tracing the historical origins of the shared lineage between Chinese bonsai and Chinese traditional painting through the composition of points, lines and planes in Chinese painting. With his profound understanding of Chinese ceramic culture, Mr. Fan introduced the development of Chinese ceramic culture to the foreign guests present, and explained the relationship between pot and scenery as well as the artistic refinement of bonsai pot selection, the various ways in which pot and scenery complement and counteract each other, how the pot exists for the scenery, how the scenery changes with the pot, and how a change of pot greatly transforms the scenery! Mr. Fan's lecture gave the Australian people a deeper understanding of Chinese bonsai art and added even more admiration and reverence for Chinese bonsai art!

In the live bonsai creation demonstration that followed, Mr. Fan won rounds of applause from Australian bonsai enthusiasts with his ingenious conception, profound theme, speed and the highly ornamental quality of his first-time creation. The audience even rushed to sign up for the later session in which he guided members in bonsai creation on site! The leadership of the Canberra National Botanic Gardens was amazed by Mr. Fan's skills and, outside his formally scheduled program, sincerely invited Mr. Fan to create an additional bonsai as a collection piece for the garden.
