As the darling of Chinese New Year flowers, the kalanchoe (Kalanchoe blossfeldiana) certainly deserves the title. Its blooming period is from January to May, with flowers forming clusters in colorful hues, making it a rare ornamental flower. Combined with the beautiful meaning of its name, giving it to relatives and friends during the holidays is also first-rate!

If you want your kalanchoe at home to bloom abundantly in spring, you need to learn to care for it this way starting now.

Light

In autumn and winter, the daylight hours are short and the light is not intense, so during this period you can let the kalanchoe receive more light. If there is not enough light at this stage, it easily causes the plant to become leggy, affecting the flowering effect later on.

Watering

When watering the kalanchoe, maintain the principle of "rather dry than wet." Do not allow water to accumulate in the pot for long periods, and keep the soil surface slightly dry. Each time you water, wait until water overflows from the bottom of the pot, then stop immediately.

During the flower-forcing stage of the kalanchoe, water should be appropriately controlled. In the early stage of flower bud differentiation, the soil should be kept semi-dry, which can promote the plant to bloom and play a role in forcing flowers. In the later stage of flower bud differentiation, normal water management can be carried out. When the flower buds enter the vigorous growth stage, the amount of watering can be slightly increased.

Temperature

The kalanchoe likes a warm environment and is not cold-tolerant. When winter arrives and the temperature drops, you should keep them warm in time. The indoor temperature in winter needs to be 12-15°C. If the temperature is too low, it will affect the blooming period, delaying flowering or resulting in sparse blooms.

Fertilizing

At this time, you can appropriately apply some flowering-promoting nutrient fertilizer to the kalanchoe. Do not apply too much at once; "apply thin fertilizer frequently."

During the flower-forcing period, focus on phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to promote later flowering of the plant. Apply diluted compound fertilizer about once every twenty days. Apply a top dressing once before flower buds appear and once during the blooming period, so the flowers will bloom more abundantly and vibrantly.

The above are the care issues you need to pay attention to as explained by the editor. If you have any other questions, feel free to leave a comment.
