Spinach is suited to growing in cool weather, and it contains very rich vitamins, making it very suitable for salads, but in hot weather the taste of spinach becomes very bitter. The best time to plant spinach is in spring and autumn.

The spinach plant is not very tall, and its root system is relatively deep, but it is also suitable for growing in flower pots, and growing it on a balcony or windowsill is very suitable.

For growing spinach, the soil should be a humus soil with a relatively high nitrogen content, and the soil should have good drainage. To make spinach grow better, you must choose a relatively tall container for cultivation.

You can cultivate the vegetable about 6 weeks before frost arrives. Its growing season is relatively short, and it can be harvested quickly. Sow the seeds directly on the soil surface and cover them with a layer of soil 1 or 2 cm thick, and that is enough.

If you plant spinach in the ground, you can choose to grow it under warm climate conditions, and you can even plant it under tall crops such as beans. Growing spinach in semi-shade will make it grow better.

During the growth of spinach, avoid excessive exposure or long periods of direct sunlight. Harvesting in autumn and winter is best.

In some colder climates, you can try planting in November, protect the seedlings appropriately in winter, and then you can harvest in spring. If it is a relatively warm place, you can choose to plant in February, and you can harvest in March to April.

Spinach seeds are not easy to store, so you must buy fresh seeds every year for cultivation. Sowing is very simple, and generally they can sprout in 5 to 9 days. Sowing in cool autumn, they can sprout quickly; sowing in hot summer, it is very difficult for them to sprout, and the seed germination rate will drop below 50%.

After spinach is planted in the potting soil, water it regularly to keep the soil moist and avoid excessive drought.

During the growth of spinach, to avoid excessive crowding, you need to maintain appropriate spacing. Generally, wait until the spinach seedlings have grown more than 2 to 3 true leaves, then carry out division propagation, keeping appropriate spacing for each spinach plant.

In the process of caring for spinach, pay attention to regular watering, keep the soil moist, and avoid sudden waterlogging. To promote more vigorous growth of branches and leaves, after the seedlings grow 3 to 4 leaves, you can fertilize regularly, maintaining a state of light fertilizer applied frequently, generally once every 1 to 2 weeks.

To keep the soil moist and the roots cool, you can cover the soil surface with a layer of dry grass, straw, or other things. In addition to keeping the soil moist and the roots cool, this can also suppress weed growth.

In cool climates, spinach rarely gets infected by pests or diseases. If you find insects, remove them in time and directly pinch them to death.

During the process of caring for spinach, avoid the soil being wet for a long time, and even more, do not let the soil become waterlogged, otherwise it is prone to Fusarium wilt infection.

After spinach grows to a certain height, it should be harvested in time. Generally, when the leaves grow to about 10 cm, they can be picked. You can directly cut off these well-grown stems and leaves, and you can directly use a sharp knife to cut them from the main stem below the soil surface.
