Verbena is a flowering plant with rather graceful form, rich and varied flower colors, and brilliant blooms that are very beautiful to look at. Below, let us learn about how to grow verbena:

Basic information about verbena:

Verbena is also called verbena, four-season hydrangea, ground-cover grass, ground-cover brocade, ground-cover vervain, and so on. It is an annual herbaceous flowering plant with a graceful form, rich flower colors, and brilliant hues. When in full bloom it looks like a sea of flowers, making people linger and not want to leave.

Verbena has a short, dense clump, with abundant flowers and bright colors. The flowering portion is corymb-shaped, and the flower colors include white, red, blue, snow blue, pink, and so on. The flowering period is from May to November, and it is very robust. It can be used as material for flower beds and flower borders, and is suitable for potted viewing or for arranging flower platforms and flower borders. It can also be grown as potted flowers or planted in large areas in garden open spaces and tree beds. Common cultivated species in the same genus include Canadian verbena, red-leaf verbena, fine-leaf verbena, and so on.

How to grow verbena:

1. Soil:

Verbena is not strict about soil, but in loose, fertile, and relatively moist neutral soil it can root at every node, grow robustly, and bloom profusely.

2. Watering:

Because verbena has a relatively shallow root system, attention should be paid to watering in summer to prevent drought. During the care period, too much or too little water is unfavorable to growth. With too much water, the stems become thin and weak and grow leggy, and the number of flowers decreases; with a lack of water, the plant grows and develops poorly, and may set seed early.

3. Sunlight:

In spring, summer, and autumn, verbena needs to be cared for under shaded conditions. When the temperature is relatively high, if it is placed in direct sunlight for care, the leaves will noticeably become smaller, the internodes of the branches will shorten, the lower leaves will turn yellow and fall off, and growth will be very slow or it will enter a semi-dormant state.

4. Temperature:

Verbena likes a warm climate and avoids extreme heat. When the summer temperature is above 34°C, growth is noticeably poor; it is not tolerant of frost and cold, and when the winter temperature is below 4°C, it enters dormancy or dies. The most suitable growth temperature is 15-25°C. Generally, sowing is done in autumn and winter to avoid the high summer temperatures.

5. Fertilizing:

Like other herbaceous flowers, verbena has a relatively high demand for fertilizer and water, but the fertilizing (watering) principle of "light fertilizer applied frequently, small amounts and many times, complete nutrition" should be followed, and after fertilizing, the leaves and flowers should be kept dry at night.

6. Pruning:

Before verbena blooms, it is generally pinched back twice to encourage more flowering branches to sprout.

When verbena blooms, it looks like a sea of flowers, very beautiful and attractive. Potted cultivation is a suitable flower variety for decorating and beautifying the home. That is all for our introduction to how to grow verbena. If you want to plant flowers and plants to decorate your home, verbena is a good choice.
