It's the perfect time for winter care of succulents in Beijing, so cherish them while you can

Beijing is in the north, with four distinct seasons, and succulents show their states just as distinctly through the seasons....
After a summer of color, early autumn is when succulents slowly take on a new look,
but autumn is too short and winter is coming soon. Growing succulents in greater Beijing means you have to cherish this happy stretch of time...

Actually, many of my succulents didn't look great when I first bought them. Getting them to look the way they do now takes slow exploration and growing on your own. When buying and selling succulents, the top criterion for everyone is certainly their state, just like when we choose a girlfriend: the first thing everyone considers is looks. After all, there are still plenty of people in this world who judge by appearances, and everyone likes a pretty face. But high good looks inevitably mean a high price. That goes for people, and for succulents too. To court a beautiful woman you definitely have to spend more energy and money, because too many people are chasing her, and if you won't put in the effort, someone else surely will. Chasing succulents in great condition is the same: everyone wants to buy ones like that, so naturally they won't be sold cheaply. But succulents differ from people too: as time passes, a person's looks inevitably fade, while a succulent, with your careful tending and correct cultivation, very likely can make a comeback in appearance.

So we can also try a different approach: buy succulents whose "state" may not be especially outstanding, but whose form is proper and which are healthy. Don't turn your nose up at one just because it's "green" or "not tight," and don't chase after one just because it's "red," "jelly-like" or "tight." Because even the most beautiful succulent can't survive a summer, and without good care skills, a succulent turns ugly in minutes, and the beauty of your succulent will only last as long as the quick photo you snap to show off on WeChat Moments or Weibo after buying it. The prerequisite for reading a book is knowing how to read; if you don't know a single character, having the money to buy a whole library is useless. So improving your care skills is the top priority. Buying healthy, high-quality succulents at plain prices, caring for them over time, and making them beautiful in your own hands, that is true happiness. I've strayed a bit far. Back to succulents: the main reason I said all that above is that the succulents in this greenhouse aren't the kind chasing color "state"; they're all visually sturdy "athlete"-type succulents. Personally, I think they show another kind of beauty. The beauty in this world is not limited to Victoria's Secret. Of course, the ideal state is surely both a good build and high good looks, and for succulents these really are a contradictory pair of factors. It's like wanting both fish and bear's paw: you can have both, but that requires you to be able to dive in and catch fish and also tease a bear bare-handed!
