After National Day, place these 5 green plants indoors, and one pot fills the whole room with fresh fragrance, even better than air freshener!

Some people dislike the pungency of perfume but love fragrance, so why not try growing these potted plants, with fresh fragrance that greets the nose.

Keep a few fragrant flowers at home, and not only can they help you relax, they can also beautify the home environment. Facing fragrant flowers every day, your mood will be happier too. Gardenia, jasmine and so on are all good choices for indoor flowers, but flowering plants are not all that simple, so you can consider some easy-to-grow plants whose leaves alone are fragrant; fragrant leaves can lift your mood greatly.

1. Yunnan pistache (Pistacia weinmannifolia)

Yunnan pistache has a fresh scent resembling a mix of Sichuan pepper and citrus, and if you rub the leaves, the fragrance is even stronger. Yunnan pistache wood is hard and can also be used to make bead bracelets, carvings and other handicrafts. Its leaves are emerald green and its new leaves are red, making it a good choice for indoor plant growing.

Yunnan pistache likes a warm environment with plenty of light; in summer take care not to expose it to blazing sun. Yunnan pistache has a well-developed root system and tolerates drought and poor soil. Do not water when the soil is dry, and when you do water, water thoroughly. Choose loose, breathable potting soil.

2. Orange jasmine (Murraya paniculata)

Orange jasmine is also called "seven-li fragrance"; its tree form is elegant and its branches are sturdy. It is an evergreen fragrant plant that can be grown at home. When it blooms, the flowers are white and fragrant, rich and charming, and the red fruits are eye-catching. It is also an excellent bonsai material.

For orange jasmine, choose loose, breathable, well-draining sandy loam, and place some slow-release organic fertilizer rich in phosphorus and potassium at the bottom of the pot as base fertilizer. When watering orange jasmine during the growing season, you can let the soil dry and then water, but do not keep it too wet for long, as this causes leaf drop.

Watering should also be moderate during the flowering period; neither too dry nor too wet is good. Orange jasmine likes a environment with plenty of light but also tolerates shade. Generally, fertilizing 2-3 times a year is enough; when the base fertilizer is sufficient, it has low demands for fertilizer and water.

3. Scented geranium (Pelargonium graveolens)

Scented geranium has a fresh fragrance resembling a blend of lemon, fruit and rose. The scent is pleasant, and it is a well-known mosquito-repelling plant. Scented geranium is highly adaptable and easy to care for; whether kept at home or planted in the ground, it adapts well, repelling mosquitoes and purifying the air.

During the growing season, especially at peak flowering, apply a thin liquid fertilizer once every 7-10 days. Scented geranium is best placed in a spot with plenty of light; good light makes its leaves more strongly fragrant.

4. Cuban oregano (Plectranthus amboinicus)

Cuban oregano has thick, fleshy, fuzzy, plump leaves; touching them is like petting a cat, and your hand picks up a slight apple scent. Cuban oregano normally releases some fragrance, but after being touched the scent becomes stronger, which is why it is also called "touch-me fragrance."

Cuban oregano is easy to grow; choose loose, breathable potting soil with good drainage, otherwise waterlogging easily causes root rot. It is best kept in a spot with plenty of sunlight; if you have a full-sun growing environment, so much the better, and the leaves will be even thicker. It is not cold-tolerant or moisture-tolerant, so keep it warm in winter; overwintering above 5C is safer.

5. Perfume lemon

The perfume lemon fruit is slender and has a fresh fragrance, and the peel's scent is even fresher and especially pleasant, with none of the astringency of ordinary lemons. The leaves of perfume lemon also have a fresh scent. Keep one at home: not only does it smell good, but if it fruits you can also slice the fruit and steep it in water; the fragrance is rich and everyone likes it.

Perfume lemon likes a warm, humid environment and is relatively shade-tolerant; it is best planted in deep, well-draining, slightly acidic soil. Before lemon flowering, fertilize once a month; during the seedling stage, mainly use nitrogen fertilizer, and later apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, which helps the lemon sprout shoots, flower and fruit.

These flowers smell fragrant, look good, are easy to grow and smell lovely; any one pot fills the room with fresh fragrance. If you like them too, give them a try!
