Everyone has eaten bottle gourd or March gourd, but have you ever seen a "banana gourd"? This vegetable, called banana zucchini, has a bright yellow appearance and is not large in size, looking very much like a banana, but its price is much higher than the ordinary vegetables we know.

Ordinary gourd vegetables on the market, for example winter melon at about 2 yuan per jin and pumpkin at about 3 yuan per jin, but banana zucchini costs more than 3 times as much, at around 8-12 yuan.

The yellow banana zucchini is originally a new variety with yellow skin among the American pumpkins, rich in nutrients such as vitamin C and glucose. Its fruit is the main part eaten, and it can be stir-fried, used as filling, made into soup, and so on. It is very crisp and tender, and because of its high glucose content, it has a sweet, fresh fragrance when eaten, and can even be eaten directly as a fruit.

In fact, although banana zucchini is more expensive than ordinary vegetables, it is not difficult to grow and has a relatively high yield. It takes only about 2 months from planting to harvest. If grown in a pot, a single small flower pot is enough, and when it fruits, one pot is covered with bright yellow gourds, delicious and beautiful.

When growing banana zucchini in pots, the garden soil can be fertile, well-drained sandy loam or other loam with a deep soil layer, with sufficient base fertilizer; it is best not to use clay. Banana zucchini likes sunlight, and the more sunlight it gets, the stronger its fruiting ability. If it can get more than 8 hours of sunlight per day, this is good for flowering and fruiting.

It is also relatively drought-tolerant, but once it enters the flowering stage, it needs more watering, especially during the fruiting stage, when the amount of water should be increased, generally keeping the soil moist. If conditions allow, during its growth period you can also apply some dilute fertilizer water mainly composed of nitrogen fertilizer, supplemented by phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, which is even better for fruit setting.

Banana zucchini likes a warm climate. As long as the temperature stays above 15°C and below 40°C, there is no problem with it flowering and fruiting. It has strong adaptability to temperature, and when grown in pots it is actually a bit easier to grow than other gourd vegetables.
