Taoyuan Food Safety Carnival Opens, Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan: Everyone Is Welcome to Come and Experience It

Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan went to Taoyuan City Gymnasium yesterday (the 27th) in the morning to attend the "2018 Taoyuan Food Safety Carnival Opening Ceremony." Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan said that the Taoyuan City Department of Public Health has held the Food Safety Carnival since last year (2017), and this year (2018) is the 2nd edition. From today until September 30, it will be held for 4 consecutive days at Taoyuan City Gymnasium, with about 180 exhibitors participating, letting everyone learn about the Five Rings of Food Safety, experience safe and delicious food, and increase local consumption and raise brand awareness. The Taoyuan City Government will continue to hold the Food Safety Carnival and make it a signature event of Taoyuan.

Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan said that the "2018 Taoyuan Food Safety Carnival" includes 8 major exhibition areas and 2 major experience areas, combining the Four Main Axes of "local," "interactive," "delicious," and "healthy" with the Five Rings of Food Safety to let everyone learn about food safety. The Taoyuan City Government is actively promoting food safety work, including: being the first in the country to establish a NT$50 million food safety fund; establishing a food safety inspection team to improve inspection quality; forming a food safety advisory committee and a food law consultation group to enhance the professionalism of food safety work; encouraging employees to report violations and giving reward money, and the Taoyuan City Department of Public Health also received the Ministry of Health and Welfare's "Subsidy Program for Local Governments to Strengthen Food Safety Management Pilot Program" Outstanding Award and NT$35 million in prize money, and used that prize money to hold the first Taoyuan Food Safety Carnival; this year's 2nd edition is funded by the city government's budget; and holding the "Taoyuan Traditional Chinese Medicine Safety and Health Happiness Party" to give citizens a better understanding of food safety and traditional Chinese medicine.
