More and more friends are now starting to grow and care for flowers. This not only improves the indoor environment of the home, but also cultivates our own character and enriches our leisure beyond working hours. But for beginners like us, when caring for flowers and plants, we more or less have some questions: what kind of flowers are suitable for growing at home, and how should these flowers be distinguished? Today let's talk about how flowers are classified.

1. Classification by flower morphology

According to flower morphology, there are woody flowers and herbaceous flowers. Woody flowers are mainly determined by the stem: if the stem is woody, then it is a woody plant. This type of flower includes Chinese rose (Rosa chinensis), jasmine, and azalea, among others. These flowers generally have hard stems and bloom every year; while the stems of herbaceous flowers are herbaceous, and the stems are relatively soft. This type of flower includes wallflower (Cheiranthus cheiri), among others.

2. Classification by flower cultivation conditions

There are greenhouse flowers. This type of flower mostly grows in the south, while in the north it needs to be cared for indoors. Such plants include clivia and cyclamen, among others. These plants usually have certain temperature requirements, and the growing temperature must not be too low. Even in the south, these plants need to overwinter indoors in winter.

There are also open-air flowers. This type of flower usually lasts one season a year, such as scarlet sage. When the weather gets warm in spring, it is sown outdoors, and by winter it will die. There are also those cultivated in water, such as lotus and water lily. These plants usually grow vigorously in small rivers in summer, but because they are affected by water temperature, their growth cycle is relatively limited.

3. Classification by flower use

Some flowers can be used as spices. For example, Chinese peony, balloon flower, and honeysuckle not only have beautiful flower shapes, but also have high medicinal value. There are also some flowers that can be used as spices, such as narcissus and rose, from which essence can be extracted; jasmine can be used as tea.

After saying so much about flower classification, do you feel as if you have many more varieties to care for? Some friends even joked that there is also a distinction between large petals and small petals when flowering. Haha, indeed it can be classified that way. But besides classification, the most important thing is care. The care of each type of flower is not exactly the same. Although some care methods are similar, you still need to understand the plant's care habits in a targeted way.
