Event Venue

A 300-sq-m terrace garden!

Flower beds were built around the terrace,

filled with flowers, plants and fruit trees.

In spring, a hundred flowers bloom; in autumn, ripe fruit fills the air with fragrance.

A fish pond was also built in the garden,

with more than a dozen koi swimming happily back and forth in the pond,

adding plenty of vitality to the whole terrace.

Besides all this, what the garden has most of is bonsai,

making it virtually a bonsai garden.

Caragana, dawn redwood, Chinese fringe tree, Chinese yew, Chinese wingnut, and more,

lush and green, each with a different shape,

dazzling to the eye!

With such a beautiful big garden, where is the owner?

Mr. Wu Guoqiang, 2018 Garden Family candidate

is exactly the owner of this garden

(Time to latch onto a big shot~

)

Mr. Wu Guoqiang has loved flowers and plants for many years. Ever since he got this garden, he has spent almost all his spare time here, to the point of forgetting to eat and sleep, completely enchanted. What makes him proudest is thatalmost all the work in the garden was done by his own hands.

and single-handedly built the bonsai garden of Zhongshan Park

Live Coverage of the Event

To attend this event, many flower friends got up at dawn and traveled tirelessly to the venue.

Upon arriving at the venue,

everyone chatted and laughed like long-time friends, as if they had endless things to say.

The garden owner, Mr. Wu Guoqiang, prepared fruit and snacks for everyone and led them on a tour of his garden.

After touring the garden, Teacher Yan explained bonsai care knowledge to everyone in terms of watering, soil, fertilizing, pruning and so on.

After the theory, Teacher Yan directly demonstrated on site how to shape and prune a Syzygium buxifolium bonsai:

  • When pruning and shaping Syzygium buxifolium, one should take the scene according to its momentum and apply artistry according to its form, that is, carry out the trimming according to the tree's shape and style.

  • First, cut off overlapping branches, crossing branches, weak drooping branches, axillary branches and branches that do not match the form. When pruning and shaping, attention should be paid to the height of the tree, the interweaving and interpenetration of branches and leaves, and so on, all of which should be subordinate to the overall beauty of form.
  • Shortly after pruning and shaping, a Syzygium buxifolium stump specimen will quickly grow many tender shoots (new tips), which should be pinched off in time.

  • Pinch again as they grow again; pinching by hand is best. Scissor-cut wounds easily turn rusty in color and lose their beauty. Maintaining the specimen relies on pinching, which can inhibit the elongation of branches and leaves, promote the sprouting of axillary buds, increase the number of branches, and make the crown dense and full.

After watching Teacher Yan's bonsai shaping techniques, everyone praised him one after another.

Master Lu, a 2016 Garden Family member, said:

Teacher Yan's bonsai shaping techniques are really excellent; I benefited greatly today. Although I got up early and had to transfer several times to get here, I feel it was very worth it, and I hope more events like this will be held in the future.

Here comes the group photo~
