Don't throw away enoki mushroom roots - put them in water and you can grow several more bunches

When the weather gets a bit cold, I start craving hot pot. Can't help it - who doesn't love good food! Eating a steaming hot pot instantly warms up your body, and hanging out with friends gradually becomes more relaxed. Ah, hot pot, I miss you so much!
I wonder what dishes everyone must order every time they have hot pot? Seafood or mushrooms? Fatty beef or lamb? Half spicy and half mild broth or clear broth? Huahua's must-order list always includes enoki mushrooms! Not sure why, just love eating them! They really taste so good!
But recently Huahua learned a method - normally the enoki mushrooms you buy are eaten and that's that, but with this trick from Huahua, one bunch of enoki mushrooms can grow into several more bunches! It's so practical that Huahua can't wait to tell everyone!
We cut off the roots of the enoki mushrooms we bought, and the rest can be eaten however you like. When buying, it's best to pick some that are relatively dense with a bit of soil on the roots.
Prepare a container for growing the enoki mushrooms, then add two spoonfuls of baking soda and some water to the container. Note that there shouldn't be too much water - best not to exceed half the height of the enoki mushroom roots. Put a wet wipe or cotton soft towel in the water, then place the enoki mushroom roots in, seal it up and just quietly wait for the enoki mushrooms to grow!
Actually the principle is very simple - enoki mushrooms can grow freely in an alkaline environment. Since they are fungi, we don't need to tend to them normally! The only thing to watch out for is the ambient temperature for the enoki mushrooms. The most suitable ambient temperature for enoki mushroom growth is 5-10°C, so you can grow enoki mushrooms according to the temperature!
Actually, besides being used for hot pot, enoki mushrooms have many other cooking methods. Below, Huahua will introduce two enoki mushroom recipes to everyone!
1. Refreshing Enoki Mushrooms
This dish is actually very simple - it's a cold enoki mushroom salad that only needs enoki mushrooms, chopped scallions and seasonings.
We blanch the enoki mushrooms in hot water, drain the water, and set them aside. Chop the scallions, then put vegetable oil and sesame oil in a pan. When the oil temperature reaches about 70% hot, add the scallions - this makes scallion oil.
Mix vinegar, light soy sauce, salt, sugar, chili oil and other seasonings in a small bowl. The specific ratios can be adjusted to your own taste. Finally, mix the scallion oil and seasoning sauce with the enoki mushrooms and it's done!
Enoki Mushroom Bacon Rolls
This dish is also quite famous - friends who often eat barbecue are no strangers to it. Put enoki mushrooms inside the bacon and secure with toothpicks. Put oil in the pan, and once the pan is hot, you can put the bacon in to fry.
Then we use oyster sauce, salt, sugar, light soy sauce and water to make a sauce. Once the enoki mushrooms are fried, pour the sauce over them and they're ready to eat!
Aren't these two dishes super simple and great with rice? The simplicity of the steps really suits office workers! Getting a bit off topic - I wonder if the method Huahua taught today for regrowing enoki mushrooms has helped you? If you have friends who love eating enoki mushrooms, definitely don't miss out - just leave one root and you can grow several more bunches!
What are you waiting for? Hurry up and give it a try!
