Orchids, clivia and succulents are basically loved by everyone, but many people worry about the potting medium used for growing them, because these flowers have very strict requirements for soil quality, and if ordinary soil is used, nine times out of ten they will not grow well. Moreover, ordinary soil easily becomes waterlogged and compacted, which readily causes yellowing and root rot. Therefore, choosing a potting medium suitable for their growth is the key factor in growing orchids, clivia and succulents well. The three potting mediums below, when used to grow them, cause no yellow leaves, no root rot, no waterlogging and no compaction, and are golden materials for growing orchids, clivia and succulents.

1. Walnut shells as a drainage layer at the bottom of the pot. Walnuts are nutritious and delicious, and are a natural tonic. Crushed walnut shells placed in the flower pot not only help with aeration and drainage, but can also supplement nutrients for the flowers. When using them, crush them with a hammer to about half a centimeter to 1 cm in size, spread them at the bottom of the pot to a thickness of 3--4 cm, and use a prepared orchid potting medium on top.

2. Peanut shells mixed into the soil. Peanut shells contain many nutrients such as amino acids, vitamins, fats, starch, cellulose and minerals. After they decompose in the soil, they become nutrients absorbed by the flowers, can promote strong roots and luxuriant foliage, and can improve the physical properties of the soil, making it more loose and airy. When using them, crush them and mix them into leaf mold soil, adding 2 parts crushed peanut shells to ten parts soil. Then put it into a container, seal it for 1 month, and it can be used to grow flowers.

3. Chestnut bark potting medium. Many orchid growers have gone up into the mountains to dig up orchids, and when you dig up orchids you will find that the best-growing orchids actually grow in mountain forests where pine trees and chestnut trees grow together. The surface soil here has pine bark, pine needles, chestnut bark and chestnut leaves, which after years of rain and wind have rotted and fermented into a humus layer. This kind of soil layer is loose and fertile, rich in organic matter, and has good aeration and drainage, making it most suitable for the growth of orchid fungi.

Choose chestnut bark, peanut shells and leaf mold soil mixed together to grow orchids, promoting orchid rooting and sprouting rates, making the flowers bloom more charmingly and more vividly, with a richer fragrance, in line with the natural growth requirements of orchids. When using it, it must first be fermented before use; the fermentation time depends on how new or old the potting medium is and on temperature changes and takes half a year to 1 year, or you can buy already fermented material. This prepared orchid potting medium is rich in orchid fungi and has sufficient nutrients, and the orchids grown with it have a high sprouting rate, many flower buds, strong seedlings and plump shoots, good flower form and pure fragrance. It likewise has a very good effect on promoting roots, shoots and flowers in clivia and succulents.
