Mid-Autumn Festival, beautiful flowers and a full moon! The editor-in-chief wishes everyone a happy Mid-Autumn Festival!!!

Growing succulents is like raising a child. Some succulent lovers say that leaf propagation is the process most like raising a child in all of succulent growing! A single succulent leaf, slowly grown into a seedling, then watching it grow up and become as healthy and beautiful as the other succulents - that feeling is probably like "my child has finally grown up," full of pride!

But have succulent lovers ever seen a beginner start leaf propagation with just a paper napkin and ultimately grow a large batch of sprouted leaves? Don't worry, there's great experience shared at the end of the article!

As you acquire more and more succulents, the leaves accidentally knocked off, and the leaves that fell to the ground in the greenhouse during shipments, have unknowingly accumulated into quite a collection - leaf propagation is imperative!

With an anxious heart, the first wave of leaf propagation began...

Can you do leaf propagation with just a paper napkin? I don't remember which day I saw a post in the forum, and I decided to try it myself. Observing every day, whenever the paper napkin dried out, I misted it with water.

In less than two months, the leaf propagation ranks kept growing!

My hands got itchy, so I stripped the leaves off several pots of old-stem Ghost Plant (Graptopetalum paraguayense), harvested two small bamboo baskets full of leaves, and started fantasizing about becoming a leaf propagation tycoon next year,Looking back now, maybe it was the fearlessness of the ignorant?

The greenhouse owner I often buy from entrusted me to bring back 15 pots of old-stem Echeveria 'Ellen' (Echeveria 'Ellen'), saying I should strip the leaves first and grow them in the mountains at my home for half a year, and if they survived and thrived, return half to him; if they died, forget it. He even gave me a look of disdain - so I'm not the only willful one!

While stripping leaves, I also harvested quite a few leaves that had already sprouted in the pots.

Looking at the thriving, robustly growing seedlings, I feel quite accomplished! Finally, let me summarize my leaf propagation, hoping it helps leaf propagation beginners a bit!

Here comes the key part!!!

1. When selecting leaves, of course choose leaves that arethick, plump and healthyto ensure the sprouting rate.

2. Soil for leaf propagation seedlingsYou can use coconut coir bricks or humus soilor simply sand or paper napkins. Personally I prefer sand - I feel roots and sprouts come out faster, and the roots seem thicker too. Paper napkins are less hassle, but unfortunately roots and sprouts come out too slowly, so I personally don't recommend them.

3.No matter which medium you use to grow leaf propagation seedlings, I generally water with a mist spray. If the weather is hot, it dries out completely within two hours, so there's no need to worry about rot from excess water - watering every day or every other day is no problem.

4. Before the leaf propagation seedlings grow roots and sprouts, I keep them in a spot with diffused light; after roots and sprouts appear, I change the angle or direction,Ensuring one hour of sunlight exposure every day, and it's all sunlight before 11 AMso there's no problem with sunburn!

5. Don't rush to repot just because the seedlings look healthy - you must be cautious! After all, the seedlings' resistance isn't very strong yet, repotting later doesn't affect their growth at all!
