Lingnan bonsai imitates nature, originates from nature, and rises above nature. With the unique shaping technique of "storing branches and truncating the trunk," it does not deliberately peel bark or break bones, showing respect for life and following the way of nature; based on the painting principles of "a thousand miles within a foot" and "seeing the large in the small," it recreates natural scenery; Lingnan bonsai has three bends in one cun, compressing a dragon into a cun, with clear branches and veins, and a crown that forms shade; its artistic conception is profound, full of poetic and painterly charm, neither fawning nor vulgar, with grace and appeal; rough-barked old trees, exposed roots and claws, hollowed and eroded holes, fully displaying the ancient charm of vicissitudes;

Although Lingnan bonsai has its own unique charm, in bonsai creation, no matter which school it is, one must earnestly absorb the strengths of other schools, apply techniques according to the material, shape according to the material, respect life, follow the principles of phenology, imitate nature, and strive for one tree, one scene, one tree, one charm.

My obsession with Lingnan bonsai is not a matter of a day or two, but as for works, I only recognize classics. Without having created classic works, no matter what title of famous master or authority one is rated as, so-called honors are also pale and empty. Letting the works speak is the real truth. Achieving a classic work is not easy, but only classic works have vitality, and only classic works can be passed down and handed on through generations. The following are exhibited works from the 10th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao-Taiwan Bonsai Expo. They are not all works by masters, but I never tire of looking at them. In the overall composition, details, naturalness, variation, artistic conception, painterly scene, and other subtle aspects, savoring them slowly, every appreciation brings a different feeling, and I always sigh that "masters are among the people"!
