Clivia is a very popular houseplant, not only does it have long sword-like emerald green leaves, but the plant also produces beautiful flowers every Spring Festival, making the festival even more prosperous. Placing a Clivia in the home symbolizes the owner's noble character of strength, firmness and unyielding dignity, so many people keep one or several potted Clivia plants at home.

Clivia is a plant that goes dormant in summer. After the Start of Autumn, as temperatures gradually drop, Clivia revives from dormancy and begins absorbing nutrients to enter its growth period. So when growing Clivia in autumn, you must pay attention to some small tips and methods. Only then can Clivia absorb sufficient nutrients in autumn and produce beautiful flowers in winter. So today I will share:

Growing Clivia in autumn: remember "3 more and 1 less", in 60 days long sword-like leaves emerge, and by winter the flowers are vivid and bright!

When caring for Clivia in autumn, remember 3 more and 1 less, so that the Clivia plant can grow healthily, then produce emerald green leaves and bloom beautiful flowers.

More fertiliser

Clivia is a plant that loves fertiliser, so after entering autumn, as the plant revives, you should increase the fertilising of Clivia. After the Start of Autumn you can repot and change the soil for Clivia; when changing the soil, renew the soil and use a fertile mixed soil. It is recommended to use 1 part river sand, 1 part garden soil, 2 parts humus soil, 1 part pine needle soil, then place base fertiliser at the bottom of the pot, for which well-fermented chicken manure can be used, and then replant the Clivia. During later care, you can spray the Clivia leaves once every two weeks with a potassium dihydrogen phosphate water solution, because phosphorus and potassium fertiliser can promote the growth of new leaves and also promote the development of Clivia flower buds, until flowering begins and fertilising stops.

More light

After its summer dormancy ends, Clivia enters a period of rapid growth. Of course, light is very important for its growth; only with sufficient light can Clivia carry out rapid photosynthesis. So when growing Clivia in autumn, it is best to place the pot in a well-lit spot on the balcony, and if conditions allow, you can also place it directly outdoors, as long as you avoid direct sunlight at noon.

More ventilation

Many flower lovers find that when growing Clivia in autumn, the leaves tend to turn yellow and develop black spots. This situation is mainly caused by poor ventilation in the plant's growing environment, so if you want Clivia to grow healthily, it is best to place it in a ventilated and airy position. Generally, an indoor balcony or living room are good positions, though of course the ideal position is outdoors.

Less repotting and fussing

When growing Clivia in autumn, as long as you repot and change the soil once at the Start of Autumn, do not fuss with the Clivia plant again, and by no means repeatedly repot and change the soil. This is very unfavourable for the plant's growth, just like when we humans move house: every time we move, there is always a period when we need to adapt to the new environment. The same is true for Clivia: after each repotting and soil change, its root system needs a period to adapt to the environment, which we call the flower's settling-in period. If you frequently repot and change the soil, the Clivia root system cannot grow, and it will naturally be in a sub-healthy state.

So when growing Clivia in autumn, give it supplementary fertiliser, more light, more ventilation, and normal care, and do not fuss with the pot.
