Improve Indoor Air Quality: These Plants Are Worth Growing in Several Pots at Home

I really enjoy keeping small potted plants and large potted greenery at home, pairing them together, growing them in suitable conditions, keeping the plants healthy, and cleaning the leaves regularly. This helps the plants deliver a good air-purifying effect, though of course you need to grow several pots for it to work.
1. Golden Pothos
Golden pothos is an excellent potted plant for purifying the air and is very well suited to indoor growing. You can place it on a windowsill with suitable indirect light. It absorbs carbon dioxide well and releases oxygen, which can raise indoor oxygen levels, and it can also purify common harmful gases in the air such as formaldehyde.
2. Dracaena fragrans (Corn Plant)
Dracaena fragrans is a fairly large foliage plant. It likes warm, humid conditions year-round. Grown indoors in a bright spot, it does not need frequent watering during the growing season, and its leaves can be cleaned regularly. It does a good job of cleaning up the chemical pollutants released by various synthetic materials.
It can purify common formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethylene, and it can also help purify the waste gas pollutants produced by various indoor boards, foam materials, pressed wood and cleaning products.
Various indoor chemical pollutants not only irritate the eyes and skin and cause allergic reactions, but also easily cause headaches. If you live for a long time in places with relatively serious levels of these polluting gases, you are also more prone to asthma, cancer, anemia, organ damage and congenital defect diseases.
3. Weeping Fig
The weeping fig is a very common tropical foliage plant. It can remove formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethane from the air well, producing oxygen to replace these air pollutants.
Growing a weeping fig also enhances indoor transpiration: moisture evaporates from the leaves, while pollutants in the air are absorbed by the roots.
4. Peace Lily
The peace lily is a very common indoor potted flowering plant. It can bloom under indirect light, does not need frequent watering, has a certain tolerance for drought, and just needs regular watering during the growing season.
The peace lily can bring healthier, fresher air indoors. It can handle the most common harmful gases such as carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, and it can also reduce allergic symptoms triggered by the air.
5. Heartleaf Philodendron
The heartleaf philodendron looks a lot like golden pothos. It is a very easy-care indoor climbing plant that can be grown in a hanging pot on a windowsill, and it just needs regular watering during the growing season.
Growing a heartleaf philodendron helps maintain indoor humidity levels and prevents the air from becoming too dry, especially in winter, when you can mist the area regularly. It also produces a certain amount of negative ions, has an air-purifying effect, and can effectively remove particulate matter from the air.
6. Ivy
Ivy is an indoor plant that prefers cooler, slightly moist conditions. It dislikes excessive direct sun after being exposed, so avoid temperatures that are too high during the growing season, water it regularly, and keep the environment well ventilated.
Ivy also purifies the air very well, cleaning common harmful gases such as carbon dioxide, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, toluene and benzene.
Many people still doubt that indoor plants can purify the air, but some plants really do purify the air better than ordinary plants.
Of course, they also need to be cared for properly. Do not let the soil stay wet for long periods; if the soil is waterlogged, it easily breeds fungi such as Fusarium. So when caring for plants, avoid overwatering. Keeping plants stronger and healthier helps them deliver a better air-purifying effect, and you should also clean the leaves regularly to avoid too much dust on them, which will also let them achieve a better purifying effect.
