These days more and more people are growing fruit trees and seedlings in pots on their balconies. Although it's not as low-maintenance as potted flowers, if a potted fruit tree can bear fruit, never mind eating it - at least the joy involved is considerable, and it also brings a great sense of achievement. Potted fruit trees are actually not that different from potted flowers, except that potted fruit trees require more patience and care. A while ago, a gardening friend sent me a submission saying that 1 year ago she casually tossed a "durian seed" into a flower pot on her balcony, cared for it quite carefully, and it has now produced 2 large fruits! Although growing durian in a pot is feasible, getting it to fruit is truly not easy. Let's see how she did it!

Bury a "durian seed" in a flower pot, care for it well for 1 year, and 2 large fruits will grow

Before talking about potted durian, you first need to prepare some materials. The first is the flower pot. Because potted fruit trees need more nutrients and are fertilized more frequently, the flower pot must have a larger diameter. You can use a ceramic pot, a porcelain pot, or even a clay pot, but don't use a plastic flower pot! The second thing to prepare is nutrient soil. The initial nutrient soil is very important, because whether it is fertile and loose directly determines whether the durian seed can survive and grow quickly. As for the soil, you can use the special soil you normally use for growing flowers, and add some organic manure or bone meal as a base fertilizer. That way the whole soil environment is ready.

Some steps for growing durian seeds in pots

Peel out the leftover durian seeds after eating, and at this point you need to soak them in water. Generally, the purpose of soaking seeds in water is to promote the activity of auxin inside the seed kernel, which can increase the germination rate. Soak the durian seeds in water for 2 days and you can see that obvious small sprouts have already started to emerge. At this point you can bury the durian seeds directly in the prepared flower pot. Note that the durian seeds should not be placed too deep in the soil - about 3 cm from the surface is enough. After planting the seeds, place the flower pot in a cool, ventilated spot.

Generally, after two or three days you can see the durian seeds starting to grow. Be careful not to water too frequently at this point - if water accumulates in the pot, it can easily cause the fragile root cells to rupture. Water according to the principle of "water when dry, stop when wet." After about a week of care, you can see that the small potted durian has basically taken shape. At this point, you need to move the flower pot to a place with light. It is now autumn, and the sun is still fairly mild, so it can be placed directly on the balcony for care.

To ensure the durian seeds grow faster, remember to fertilize them regularly. As for the fertilizer, it depends on the season. For example, in the autumn of the first year, apply more organic nitrogen fertilizer to promote vigorous stems and leaves. For organic nitrogen fertilizer, gardening friends can use cooked soybeans, cake fertilizer, etc. as substitutes. By the spring of the second year, try to apply some manure, which will help with fruiting in the second year. In addition, during the period when the fruit is forming, you need to spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate to force the fruit and promote its enlargement.

If you follow the care details above and tend to it daily, the potted durian will grow very quickly, and the fruit it produces will not be small either. That's all for sharing knowledge about growing durian seeds in pots. Gardening friends might as well give it a try! After all, it doesn't take much effort and is quite a bit of fun.
