Will a clivia still bloom after it has fruited? How do you care for a clivia properly? After a clivia has fruited, it will still bloom, but not in the same year, because in our normal care routine it is generally impossible to get it to bloom right after the fruit has ripened. Generally, once the fruit has ripened, it is possible for it to bloom again the following year.

It takes six to nine months for a clivia to go from successful pollination to ripe seed. At six months, its seeds can already be picked, but the germination rate will be relatively low. Full ripening takes about nine months; picked at that point, the seeds have a very high sowing and sprouting rate, basically one seed sown gives one seedling.

The seeds gradually ripen on the plant, and this requires a supply of nutrients. It also consumes a great deal of the clivia's nutrients. Basically, once the seeds have been fully picked and you then try to get it to develop flower buds again, the success rate is very low. After we pick the seeds, give it more multi-element compound fertilizer. This promotes good root growth. When none of the various nutrients are lacking, it helps it overwinter safely. Once winter has passed, with no seeds weighing it down, it can grow normally, and when the flowering season arrives, it will naturally produce flowers.

If it is not a very good variety of clivia, I do not recommend letting it set seed, because setting seed drags the clivia down and keeps it from growing, with a whole year's nutrients all going to the seeds. If the plant has grown large enough, you can pollinate it and let it set seed. In the earlier stage, the main focus is on growing the plant itself.
