Lewisia

Lewisia has a basal rosette leaf cluster, with dark green leaves spreading from the inside out. Elegant and graceful, with fresh flower shapes, it has high ornamental value.

-Soil-

Lewisia prefers well-draining, deep, loose, sandy soil.

-Fertilizing-

Lewisia blooms quite frequently and needs more nutrients. In the early growth stage, fertilize 1-2 times a month, mainly with nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer. Starting from June, fertilize 1-2 times a month, mainly with phosphorus fertilizer.

-Watering-

Lewisia is a succulent and is relatively drought-tolerant. Normally, do not water until the soil is dry, and water thoroughly when you do. During the hot summer and cold winter seasons, the potting soil should be kept on the dry side and avoid being wet to prevent root rot.

-Light-

Lewisia prefers an environment with ample light. Generally, it is better to keep it in a partial-sun environment. In winter, it can be placed in full-sun conditions, which can encourage Lewisia to bloom in spring.

-Temperature-

Lewisia has very poor cold tolerance. After the temperature drops, move it indoors promptly and keep the indoor temperature at 3~5°C. If the indoor temperature in winter is relatively low, it is recommended to put a plastic bag over the flower pot, which can provide good insulation. In summer, it is better to keep it in a cool, ventilated place. Generally, once the temperature exceeds 30°C, you should pay attention to the health of the Lewisia.

-Propagation of Lewisia-

The propagation methods of Lewisia include sowing and division.

Sowing Lewisia is generally done in warm spring and autumn. Mix

Lewisia seeds evenly with perlite and place them in the

refrigerator

at 5°C for 2 weeks. Then place them in a dark environment at 10-20 degrees for germination. After the

seeds

sprout and turn white, transfer them to the growing medium.

Division propagation can also be used. After the mother plant grows offsets, cut off the offsets, let them dry, then place them in the potting soil and wait for them to take root.

-Appreciation of Lewisia-

Overall, caring for Lewisia is not very difficult, similar to Kalanchoe blossfeldiana, but getting through summer is slightly harder than with Kalanchoe blossfeldiana. However, its flowers are much more beautiful than those of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana!
