Osmanthus is a plant that many flower lovers adore, because its blooms are fragrant and pleasant, its branches stand upright and sturdy, and a pot grown in the yard or on the balcony can develop into an impressive bonsai that looks very beautiful. In autumn, it puts out a whole tree of blossoms. But some flower lovers asked Xiaoya why their osmanthus, after being grown for several years, still does not bloom?

If a potted osmanthus does not bloom, try this trick: flowers all over the branches and fragrance throughout the house!

Choose suitable soil. Osmanthus likes slightly acidic soil, so you can use leaf mold and sandy soil to plant it, and each year add some ferrous sulfate or sulfur powder and the like to increase the acidic quality of the soil.

Increase light. Osmanthus likes a sunny environment and belongs to the group of plants and flowers that enjoy strong light and full sun. If it is placed in a shaded spot or a dim place, its leaves will be small, its growth will be weak, and flowering will be affected. So the more sun it gets, the more it blooms.

For osmanthus to bloom, there is a little trick: it must go through a period of low temperature, especially in winter. If the temperature is too high, it is also hard for it to bloom. Generally in winter, keeping it at around 3 degrees, or even lower, is fine. After a period of dormancy, it can bloom smoothly the next year.

When watering normally, do not let the potting soil become waterlogged, and do not water excessively, otherwise the roots can rot and the leaves can drop. Water again only when the soil is slightly dry. As for fertilizing, do not apply only nitrogen fertilizer; you also need to apply some phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. You can water with a little potassium dihydrogen phosphate, cake fertilizer, and so on.

A potted osmanthus needs repotting once every two years. Add some bone meal or other organic fertilizer at the bottom of the pot as a base fertilizer, and the plant will bloom more and more. If you have a small yard on the ground floor, osmanthus planted in the small yard, or osmanthus in flowerpots, will grow lush and vigorous.

In short, potted osmanthus must be placed in a ventilated and airy spot. If you have a terrace, it is best to put it on the terrace or near a window. Prune it appropriately at ordinary times, cutting off some dead branches, leggy branches, and so on, to encourage more side branches and tender shoots to emerge, and the plant shape will also look better!

If potted osmanthus is grown according to the methods above, its leaves will be lush, its flowers will bloom especially densely and beautifully, and its fragrance will spread everywhere!
