Snake plant leaves are thick and fleshy, evergreen all year round, and can purify indoor air. It is also called tiger tail sansevieria or thousand-year plant, and there are short-leaf snake plants, long-leaf snake plants, golden-edged snake plants and so on, but the growing method is actually the same. Garden friends often ask Xiaoya why the potted snake plant they keep at home grows especially slowly, as if it is not growing at all, and why it produces few side shoots. How can it grow fast and fill the pot?

Grow snake plants with this one method: more side shoots sprout, and the pot is full within a year

Everyone knows that snake plants can be propagated by cuttings, and any fresh snake plant leaf can be used for cuttings. Autumn is a very suitable time for cuttings. Just cut the leaves into small sections of about 7 cm, let the wounds dry, and then insert them into sandy soil.

Keep them moist and shaded. Plant one pot of cuttings fairly densely, so many small shoots will come out. When all the seedlings have grown, we can grow a full pot of snake plants, reaching the state of a full pot.

So if you do not use cuttings to grow them, the snake plants kept at home can also be made to grow faster through some growing techniques, and they can fill the pot in about a year.

Snake plants are perennial plants. After growing them for one or two years, they need to be repotted, because the nutrients in the soil have all been absorbed. So replace the soil or add new fertile, loose soil. With nutrients, they can grow faster.

Plenty of sunlight can also make them grow robustly. If they are kept indoors in a place with insufficient light for a long time, it will affect their growth, and it will also be very hard for side shoots and small pups to grow. To get a full pot, give them more sun. Apart from shading them in summer, they can be in the sun at other times.

Timely fertilizing is very important, especially in this season. Autumn is the peak growing season for snake plants, so they need fertilizer. If you do not have fertilizer at home, we can put a handful of cooked soybeans into the soil of the flower pot, at the edge of the pot, cover them well with soil, and then water thoroughly. Gradually the soybeans will turn into fertilizer and be absorbed by the snake plant. If there are other nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, you can also give some. Only with fertility can they grow faster and sturdier.

If the potting soil is compacted and looks whitish, with very little humus inside and no nutrients, and the snake plant shows no sign of growing for several months, then it needs to be loosened and replaced in time. Use peat soil or leaf mold, and add some garden soil and sand.

If the soil in the flower pot is too dry or too wet for a long time, it will affect growth. Be sure to put it in a well-ventilated place with plenty of light, and even occasionally take it out to an open terrace or outdoors for a period of time. It will grow faster and more luxuriant and attractive, and you can easily grow a full pot.
