After Getting Hooked on Growing Flowers, We All Became Trash-Picking Maniacs, Wanting to Grab Everything We See

Ever since I got hooked on growing flowers, I've become a junk king. Today I pick up flower pots, tomorrow I sneak some soil. Whenever I pass a dumpster, I always take a second look, and when I spot a plant with even a glimmer of hope for survival, I hurry to take it home for a rescue. I wonder if you're like Huahua, always unable to control your hands!
Picking Up Junk to Use as Flower Pots
1. Beginner Level
A neighbor moved away and threw out lots of pots, pans, and pickle jars. I picked them all up, not missing a single one.
On my way home from work, I spotted a super-large vat next to the trash can. Hmm, it's a bit heavy, but I still had to haul it back. Once home, it works perfectly for both fish and flowers.
Oh my god, such a nice flower pot! Did the previous owner think it was too dirty? Following the principle of never letting anything pass by, I hauled them all home, washed them up, and put them right back to use.
2. Intermediate Level
The old town nearby is being demolished, so I go wander around when I have time. Besides old flower pots I can use directly, there are even antique-grade jars. I drive over to haul them back, stuffing the trunk completely full.
Not far from home there's a patch of wasteland where people always dump trash in the middle of the night. Ever since I started growing flowers, I've been picking up bottles to take home, cutting them open, and they're just perfect for planting succulents.
3. Advanced Level
What? You've used up your laundry detergent! Don't throw it out, don't throw it out, I want them all. Take them home, grab some scissors, and with a little modification, a hollowed-out little flower pot is born.
Picking up wine bottles from the trash heap, taking them home to wash clean, and doing artistic designs based on their different shapes, giving the bottles a second spring by planting a succulent and creating a mini bonsai.
Rescuing Plants, I'm So Kind-Hearted
A happy tree (Radermachera sinica) thrown out by the company next door. I took a taxi to haul it home. If I can save it, great; if not, it can still serve as a coat rack.
A variegated jade plant (Portulacaria afra f. variegata) dyed with chemicals was thrown out along with its pot. Seeing that the roots weren't rotten yet, I hurried to haul it home for a major rescue.
Looks like a Chinese snowball viburnum (Viburnum macrocephalum). The stems are still green. Say no more, I just grabbed it with the soil ball and carried it off. Every plant saved is one more.
Others Go Hiking, I Dig Soil
When we plan a hike together on the weekend, I still think about the plants at home. A small trowel and big bags are essential gear. Easily hike up the mountain, then haul big bags and small sacks back down.
Coming home during the day, I saw a thick layer of pine needles piled under the pine trees. Shh, wait until the dead of night to go dig soil. Bags and a small shovel at the ready!
However, casually digging soil from the mountainside or roadside like this is uncivilized behavior. You can instead pick up some fallen leaves and pine needles to take home and compost yourself~
Natural Fertilizer, Don't Touch It, I'll Get It
When visiting the countryside, I found natural earthworm fertilizer. Leave it alone, let me handle it. I packed it all up and took it away, and on the way back I even felt the villagers' stares following me, haha.
When leaving the village, there was natural sheep manure on the roadside, some of it fresh out of the oven. Holding my breath and wrapping it in plastic bags, I picked it all up and took it home.
