Recently the gardenia flowering season is basically over, and many flower lovers think that enjoying the leaves is quite nice too. Who would have thought that the gardenia leaves at home would start turning yellow like crazy! What on earth is going on? Today Huahua will reveal the reasons behind yellow gardenia leaves!

Overwatering causes yellow leaves

The end of the gardenia flowering season happens to coincide with the arrival of autumn. Many friends think that since the weather is cooler, gardenias should not be as delicate as in summer, so they start watering like crazy!

Symptoms:

Leaves start turning yellow gradually from the bottom upward, with basically no yellow leaves at the top. The leaf veins remain normal green, while the rest of the leaf is yellow.

Rescue measures:

Poke the soil a few times with chopsticks to loosen it, then place it in a well-ventilated spot to speed up the evaporation of accumulated water in the soil.

Alkaline soil causes yellow leaves

Friends in the north should know this well - gardenias are really hard to grow! This is mainly because the alkaline soil in the north is not suitable for gardenia growth, so yellow leaves become a common occurrence.

Symptoms:

The veins of new leaves are green, but the leaf tissue appears yellow-green, while old leaves are basically normal.

Rescue measures:

Prepare a plastic bottle, add 100g of citric acid, put in a rusty iron nail, then fill with water. Wait until the rust disappears and the solution turns light green, then dilute with water 500 times and water the gardenia. Use once every 10 days, and the yellow leaves will gradually disappear.

Overfertilizing causes yellow leaves

In order to make gardenias grow fast and strong, many flower lovers like to add some fertilizer to the water every time they water. After doing this many times, they find that the gardenia has more and more yellow leaves!

Symptoms:

Old leaves start turning yellow from the veins first, gradually spreading to the entire leaf. In severe cases, the whole plant will turn yellow.

Rescue measures:

Flush the potting soil with plenty of water, or use the soaking method, to dilute the overly concentrated fertilizer in the soil.

Environmental changes cause yellow leaves

Many flower lovers like to buy gardenias when the seasons change, but after bringing them home, the originally lush green leaves suddenly turn yellow and drop like crazy.

Symptoms:

A few days after buying the gardenia home, or after moving it from outdoors back inside, yellow leaves appear unevenly.

Rescue measures:

Place it in a spot with bright indirect light and good ventilation for a period of time, and wait for the gardenia to slowly adapt to the new environment. If the gardenia leaves keep turning yellow for more than half a month, then consider washing the roots and repotting.

Wash the gardenia roots and guarantee no root rot for 10 years!

Many gardenias bought at flower markets are in clay soil. After multiple waterings, this kind of soil gradually becomes compacted, like a brick, and easily retains water, causing root rot in gardenias. But Huahua's are not in clay soil, so you can buy with confidence!

1. If you find the soil is severely compacted, for the gardenia's normal growth, it is best to take it out of the pot and wash the roots.

2. Prepare a large bucket, fill it with clean water, and soak the unpotted gardenia in the water to clean the roots. Do not forcefully pull off the soil on the roots, as this easily damages them. It is best to take it out and shake it every once in a while, letting it soak clean naturally.

3. After cleaning, trim the rotten roots of the gardenia, then soak in rooting water for half an hour. You can add some carbendazim to the rooting water.

4. While the gardenia roots are soaking, prepare the nutrient soil. The soil for planting gardenias can be a mix of leaf mold and coconut coir, mixed with some coarse sand and perlite. Before putting the soil into the pot, first lay a few pieces of broken brick or wooden strips at the bottom of the pot.

5. After potting, water thoroughly and move to a cool, ventilated place. Prepare a mineral water bottle, poke 6 small holes on one side with a sewing needle, fill with water, tighten the cap, and place it next to the gardenia roots to let it drip slowly.
