Introduction

Nowadays people's living standards have generally improved, material life is becoming more and more refined, and the rise in material living standards has given people the energy and the time to pay attention to their spiritual life. For example, almost everyone now keeps a few pots of flowers at home, which elevates the taste of the home while also purifying the air, and the process of growing flowers is full of fun too.

Speaking of growing flowers, a few days ago Xiaohua went to browse the flower market and found that clivia has recently become very popular, with a huge number of people buying clivia. What's more, clivia can bloom with especially beautiful flowers, and its main blooming season is in winter, so now is exactly the right time to get a clivia. At Chinese New Year it will be covered in flowers, bright and festive, perfect for welcoming spring, receiving guests and inviting good fortune.

But although there are many people who like clivia, not many can grow it well. Many people's clivia grows extremely slowly, not even producing a pair of leaves in a year. Did you know that a normal mature clivia (3 years or older counts as mature) should normally grow at least 3 pairs of leaves a year, and many can grow around 6 pairs, or even more? However, that requires especially professional care that ordinary flower lovers cannot achieve. Today Xiaohua will share a little method for caring for clivia. With it, clivia will grow at least 4 pairs of leaves a year; some flower lovers who used it even got 5 or 6 pairs. Let's take a look at today's topic!

When growing clivia, get the "3 basic needs" right, then water it with a little of this, and it will grow at least 4 pairs of leaves a year!

The most basic needs of clivia care

If you want your clivia to grow well, its most basic needs must be met. Add a few little tricks on top of that, and it will grow fast and bloom abundantly. But if even the most basic needs cannot be met, then wanting clivia to grow fast and grow well is simply impossible.

Basic need one: Potting soil and base fertilizer

If you want your clivia to grow well, potting soil and base fertilizer are truly important. Clivia loves fertilizer, and it loves oily fertilizers, and it has fat, oily roots, so it needs potting soil that is loose, breathable and nutritious. Based on this habit, when we mix soil for clivia, it is best to do it like this:

5 parts garden soil, 2 parts river sand, 3 parts leaf mold, and at the same time add roasted sesame seeds or castor beans equal to one fifth of the potting soil. The potting soil mixed this way is rich in nutrients, loose and breathable, and especially suitable for clivia's growth.

Basic need two: Light

Clivia's growth cannot do without sufficient light. If light is insufficient, clivia cannot grow thick, glossy leaves either. However, clivia does not like strong light, and especially in summer it must be shaded. For example, in summer, on an outdoor grape trellis or inside a simple shade shed all suit clivia's growth, because such an environment has plenty of scattered light and good ventilation. So for home care we also need to create such an environment for clivia. It is recommended to place it not far from a window, where something blocks the strong light while scattered light is plentiful, and there is also good ventilation.

However, clivia is phototropic, so if you want its leaves to grow evenly, you must rotate the pot about once every 2 days.

Basic need three: Watering

Water plays a crucial role in the growth of every plant, and clivia is no exception. Clivia has broad leaves and thick fleshy roots, both of which can store water, so clivia is relatively drought-tolerant. Therefore we must not water clivia too much, and especially there must be no standing water in the pot. But how do you judge whether clivia should be watered? Xiaohua shares a simple method: use a small wooden stick, insert it into the clivia's pot, and if after pulling it out you find that one third of the surface of the clivia's potting soil is dry, then water it, and water thoroughly, with no standing water.

And you need to use a soft cloth to wipe the leaves regularly. You can dip it in a little beer water, which cleans the leaves while also acting as a foliar fertilizer.

A little method for caring for clivia

If caring for clivia meets the three basic needs above, then clivia will generally grow quite well. If you add one more little method, then clivia's leaves will grow like crazy.

This method is to enlist the help of fresh willow branches. Why willow branches? I believe flower lovers all know that willows have super strong growth ability, able to root, sprout and grow leaves extremely fast. This is all because willow sap contains 2 substances:

1. Salicylic acid, which is relatively abundant and is a plant growth hormone that can promote plants to root and sprout as quickly as possible. 2. Aspirin, which has super strong anti-corrosion ability and can prevent plants from rotting.

We make use of these two substances, and the method of use is also fairly simple:

Just break off a few willow branches of the current year, remove the leaves, cut them into small pieces about 3 cm long, put them into a larger plastic bottle, add water, cover with the lid, place in a warm, ventilated spot, and let it sit for about 3 days. Then you can take the water and water your clivia with it, which will make the clivia quickly push out new leaves, and the root system will grow well too.

However, if you want your clivia to bloom more, at the blooming season it is best to apply one additional dose of phosphorus fertilizer.

That is all for today's sharing on clivia care. If you like it, you can forward it to friends and family, or save it for later use. Thank you for reading and supporting, and see you next time!
