Rubber plant leaves are thick and glossy. If you want to grow your rubber plant lush, bursting with multiple heads and full in shape, all you need is to master the method. Below, we introduce 2 ways to make a rubber plant grow side shoots!

(1). Control watering

When the plant has sufficient water, nutrients and light, control watering: wait until the leaves droop slightly and feel soft, and the potting soil has dried out completely, then water again. Continue this for about 1 month, then return to normal care. About half a month after resuming watering, side shoots will emerge from the buds on the top leaves.

Why do this? Because when a rubber plant has sufficient nutrients and light, it is very hard for it to sprout side shoots if water is plentiful.

(2). Pinching and chopping the top

Pinching and chopping the top of the rubber plant is a fairly common method. Cut off the top of the branch, and make sure the cut is flat and even. This keeps the plant at a certain height and also encourages leaf buds to sprout side shoots, with new tender shoots growing mainly from between the leaves and the stem. At the same time, make sure there is sufficient water, nutrients and light, so the plant can sprout more side shoots, achieve the multi-head effect and grow more lushly.
