Green plants and potted flowers are essential decorative touches for home life. Keeping some flowers and plants at home brings many benefits: they beautify the room and lift your mood. "Flower Sound Potted Plant Diary, Issue 1304" introduces you to a kind of orchid that offers great value for money.

Today's star

Orchids are a traditional famous flower of China and one of the top ten famous flowers. "Chinese orchids" (referring to orchids native to China, such as Cymbidium goeringii, Cymbidium ensifolium, Cymbidium sinense, and Cymbidium faberi) are much loved by flower enthusiasts throughout the Chinese character cultural sphere. The one introduced this time is called "Ruimei", beautiful and easy to grow, suitable for beginners.

Ruimei

Ruimei is a famous plum-petal variety of Cymbidium goeringii. Its three outer petals are tightly rounded with pointed tips, it has a liu hai tongue, the flower sits level-shouldered, and the flower form is well proportioned; the leaves are semi-arching, the bracts are pale purple-green, the leaf color is dark green, the leaf tips are sharp, and the veins are light. It is known as the "small version of Wanzi", its bloom quality is no inferior to Jiyuan, and both flowers and leaves are beautiful.

Neat and well-formed blooms

Ruimei has a very long flowering period, with flowers opening successively from November to April of the following year, one to two months longer than other Cymbidium goeringii, giving a very long ornamental period. Its flowers have a pure fragrance, rich and intensely sweet; a single bloom can fill a whole room with scent. It is often placed in halls and other spots as a Lunar New Year flower, with excellent decorative effect.

Easy to plant and grow

Ruimei is robust and vigorous, multiplies quickly, and readily sends up new shoots and flowers; it is easy to cultivate and relatively easy to plant and grow. Beginners are advised to use orchid-specific potting soil and place it in a spot with diffused light, with an outdoor environment being even better. Do not water too frequently; water thoroughly only after the soil has dried out. Once you understand its habits, it is very easy to grow.

When the flowers bloom, fragrance fills the hall

Ruimei has long been an "underestimated" variety. Its bloom quality can rival that of the "Four Heavenly Kings" Wanzi, yet its price is less than half of that or even lower. It belongs to the great-value-for-money category, with a very affordable price: if you fail to keep it alive you won't feel the loss, and if you grow it well it becomes a beautiful bonsai. It is very much worth getting.
