Schefflera, also known as the money tree, has emerald-green leaves and stays evergreen all year round, and it is grown by a great many plant lovers! What's more, propagating schefflera from cuttings is very simple and it takes root especially easily. Today Chengcheng will tell you how to take schefflera cuttings!

For the branches used to take schefflera cuttings, you must choose semi-lignified branches, and never choose the overly tender branches that have just grown out, because those overly tender branches will not take root even if you plant them as cuttings!

After cutting off the semi-lignified branches, cut them into segments, and each segment of branch should keep 1-2 pairs of leaves!

After cutting the branches short, make a slanted cut at the base, just like the slanted cut for water-propagating lucky bamboo, then put the cut end in water and soak it for 24 hours. The purpose is to let it absorb enough water, which will make rooting easier!

Once the branches for cuttings are ready, we can start taking the cuttings. For schefflera cuttings, we can just use river sand directly. River sand has good water permeability and air permeability, so it is very suitable for use in propagating plants from cuttings!

We insert the branches for cuttings directly into the river sand, then place it in a cool, ventilated spot with bright indirect light, and water it thoroughly. Usually keep an eye on it and always keep the river sand slightly moist; nothing else is needed, and it will generally take root in about 20 days! After it takes root and starts growing new leaves, we then gradually give it sunlight!

In addition, if you find this way of taking cuttings too troublesome, there is an even simpler cutting method, which is water propagation. We put the trimmed schefflera branches directly into a vase filled with clean water, then place it in a cool, ventilated spot with bright indirect light, and generally it will also take root in two weeks!

One thing to note: although water-propagated schefflera takes root relatively quickly, the roots grown in water are relatively weak, so if we want to transplant it, it is best to wait until its roots have grown a bit sturdier before transplanting!

Taking schefflera cuttings is just this simple. If there is anything you don't understand during the cutting process, you can leave Chengcheng a message in the comments section!
