All succulents can be grown into attractive old stumps, mainly those in the Crassulaceae family. To grow succulents into old stumps you have to start from small seedlings; to achieve an old stump, meet their growth needs and learn how to water, fertilize and provide light. The soil should also be a fertile, loose and breathable soil medium.

Growing an old stump takes as little as 1~2 years, or as long as 3~5 years, depending on how well the succulent is growing. Let's look at the methods below!

(1). Plenty of water and fertilizer

During the succulent's growing season, ensuring plenty of water and fertilizer is very important, and it is the key to growing a succulent into an old stump. Water only after the potting soil has dried out completely. Apply fertilizer 3 times every 1~2 months, mainly fertilizers based on nitrogen and potassium, so the stems become thick and sturdy and the leaves plump.

(2). Plenty of light

At the same time, during the succulent's growing season, plenty of water and fertilizer can promote rapid growth. In this way, after the lower leaves of the succulent fall off, they continuously consume themselves to supply nutrients and water to the growth point; after the leaves dry up and fall off, the main stem is exposed and branches will grow. Pull off the lower leaves to ensure the grown branches receive plenty of light, and the color will slowly turn brown and become woody, gradually forming an old stump.
