Recently, the weather has gradually cooled down from its high-temperature steaming state, and succulent lovers who have been holding back and afraid to make a move are starting to plan all kinds of buying sprees as well as repotting, beheading, propagating and other operations for their succulents; let's take a look at what issues to pay attention to~

1

Watering

Many friends who cut off watering or restricted water for their succulents in summer should absolutely not water their succulents thoroughly right away at this time. It is recommended to gradually restore the normal watering amount and give the succulent root system a period to adapt, thereby reducing the chance of succulents turning to mush. Of course, those who watered normally in summer can ignore this.

2

Light

In summer, many friends use shade nets to shade their succulents. Likewise, do not remove the shade net immediately at this time. Because over the summer, the succulents have already adapted to the shaded environment, and the scorching midday sun of the autumn tiger heat still lives up to its reputation. If the shade net is suddenly removed, the succulents are very likely to get sunburned. So removing the net also needs to be done gradually; you can progressively increase the time of direct sunlight for the succulents until they are fully adapted. PS: Ivory and the Echeveria elegans series succulents have recently shown a higher chance of sunburn, while succulents with round leaves like peach eggs (Graptopetalum amethystinum) are relatively less prone to sunburn.

3

Repotting

Similarly, it is recommended not to repot immediately during this period. Because although the weather has indeed cooled down a bit recently, it is still not very stable. The best time to repot is when the highest temperature of the day is around 25°C and the lowest temperature is around 10°C; at this time, it is relatively easiest for succulents to grow roots.

4

Pest Prevention

Actually, mealybugs are afraid of heat too, so once the weather cools down a little, the bugs start becoming active again. At this time, be sure to observe your succulents more, especially the undersides of the leaves and the base of old stems. If you find bugs, do not hold back: stab them if stabbing is needed, poison them if poisoning is needed.

5

Plucking Leaves

Plucking leaves is divided into two aspects: first, promptly clean up dead leaves completely, so they do not rot in the pot and cause disease in the succulents. Note that if leaves that are not yet completely dried out are forcibly pulled off, they will leave a large wound, so try not to touch them; mainly clean up those dead leaves that are completely dried out and fall off at a touch; second, if you want to pluck leaves for leaf propagation, it is recommended to hold off a bit longer. As said above, forcibly pulling off leaves that are not yet completely dried out will still leave a large wound, let alone fresh, plump leaves.

6

Buying Sprees

After holding back for a whole summer, friends probably have a fairly strong desire to go on buying sprees. As for buying sprees, it is still recommended to hold off a bit longer. Once the temperature stabilizes, the succulents you receive may be in better condition, and repotting and acclimating them after purchase will be relatively easier. In addition, when buying succulents after summer, you must keep your eyes open, because there may be unscrupulous sellers beheading diseased summer plants and selling them. So if, when buying succulents, you see succulents that were obviously beheaded recently and have no roots, or succulents that obviously look like just a branch, you should be careful.

7

Weather Forecast

Recently, Huashao has developed a habit of checking the 15-day weather trend every day. The daily weather forecast may not be very accurate, but the 15-day weather trend can still roughly reflect the stability of the climate. Once the temperature truly stabilizes, that is when the good days for succulents will really arrive.
