How to grow old-stem succulents? Small methods to teach you rapid formation

How do succulents grow old stems? The old-stem succulents we know mostly have a thick stem that has already become woody and whitish, not the kind that feels tender and juicy, and then leaves grow out from the top. Only that gives the feel of an old stem. And it looks quite shapely.

Old stems are grown step by step from small seedlings. If you want to get an old stem quickly, first we need to get fertilizing, watering and soil mixing right. Mix a loose, breathable soil. During its growing season, when the potting soil is dry, water it thoroughly in time. Supplement fertilizer at least two to three times a month, choosing a multi-element mixed fertilizer based mainly on nitrogen and potassium, so its stems and leaves grow more and thicker. In this way, during its growing season, with sufficient fertilizer and water, it can grow quickly. The lower leaves gradually fall off, and a stem will gradually appear. We remove the lower leaves. Let the lower stem get sufficient light. Once the lower stem is exposed to light, it will gradually turn brown and become woody, and thus gradually become an old stem.

After it becomes an old stem, we pair it with a nice-looking pot. Then water it less and fertilize it less, always keeping its shape. In winter, when there is a temperature difference and sufficient light, its leaves will change color, and its form will also look good. This is the form of an old stem. This is also a rapid cultivation method. Growing from a small seedling to an old stem takes about one year, but if you let it grow slowly on its own, it takes a great deal of time.

Xiao Qi previously made a video about a black Aeonium 'Zwartkop' grown from a small cutting in half a year into a very, very long old stem, and it was grown using this method: let it grow quickly in the early stage, then remove the lower leaves in the later stage. Repot it, then let it get more light, and once the lower stem ages, it is a very good old stem.
