Autumn brings clear skies and crisp air, and after making it through the hot summer, it's time to get your hands dirty and plant something new. Autumn-sown flowers are a great choice: sow the seeds in autumn, let the seedlings overwinter, and they bloom in the following spring and summer. Watching the flowers slowly grow from seeds and set fruit, the joy in it is truly something.

1. Pansy

Pansies are fairly drought-tolerant and prefer a cool environment with plenty of light. They are usually sown by broadcasting in September. The soil in the pot must be well-drained. Then cover with soil, water thoroughly with a fine-spouted watering can, and place in a spot with plenty of light for care.

2. Canterbury bells

Caring for Canterbury bells requires plenty of light and a well-ventilated environment. It prefers deep, fertile, well-drained neutral soil. Its seeds are quite small, so the soil covering must not be too thick. Around 20°C is generally suitable for germination.

3. Daisy

Daisies are not demanding about the soil they are grown in and are mostly sown in August and September; friends in the north can also sow them in spring. Daisies like a cool climate and dislike heat, and they prefer light but also tolerate shade. Daisy seeds are fairly small, so they are usually propagated by broadcasting.

4. Cornflower

Cornflowers are fairly adaptable and like an environment with plenty of light. They do not tolerate shade or damp and are fairly drought-tolerant. For care, fertile, loose, well-drained sandy soil is best. They can be sown and propagated in both spring and autumn. Do not cover with too much soil - just enough that the seeds are no longer visible - then press down lightly and water thoroughly.

5. Sweet William

It is drought-tolerant and tolerant of dry conditions, and likes a sunny, well-ventilated, cool and moist climate. For care it needs fertile, loose, well-drained sandy loam. It can generally be propagated by sowing, division or cuttings, and it is fairly easy to care for.
