After skyrocketing to fame overnight, he spent 5000 yuan to marry a wife and turned their life into a legend

Toutiao Jun has never envied anyone

Except Qiao Xiaodao

I heard that recently he and his partners

Built another room in a tree

I first learned about him

Because of the variety show "Back to Field"

Huang Lei puts away the stove, and the ending theme song appears

Farmer and Fisherman

A Dialogue Between Woodcutter and Fisherman

Da Qiao and Xiao Qiao

00:00/03:51

"If one day I could own a big orchard

I would give up all my pursuits and become a farmer tending the fields

Every morning I till the green fields and countryside

Every dusk I watch over the wheat fields in the village..."

Back then, Da Qiao was still a singer

In 2007

He and his 9-year-old niece Xiao Qiao

Formed a band called "Da Qiao and Xiao Qiao"

"Farmer and Fisherman" was the life he yearned for

Da Qiao's voice carries elegance with a touch of desolation

Xiao Qiao's voice is clean and crystal clear

Hearing them is like seeing golden wheat ears in the fields

Shortly after their debut

Many people were captivated by their voices

Even Wong Kar-wai said their voices held

A nostalgia for the passing years

He wanted to put it in his films

After becoming famous, they began a nationwide tour

Playing and singing at Wenhua Bookstore in Wuhan

Humming softly at Qiumao Cafe in Qinhuangdao

Recalling youth on the podium of Fangyuan Building at Liaoning University...

From south to north, they left their songs across the four seasons

Nationwide tour

Time moved slowly forward, until

Life became very tense, with all kinds of social obligations

People became increasingly restless

After the revelry, life always felt like it was missing something

In 2012, Da Qiao changed careers

He became a carpenter

And formed a small handmade team

"Disappearing Light-Year"

He said: "As a child I would always

Bring all sorts of odds and ends of scrap home

Tinker with them myself

Making a chair or a small lamp made me so happy

Handcrafting brings me back to my true self"

Da Qiao's favorite handmade piece: the clumsy Farmer and Fisherman

Da Qiao became obsessed with carpentry work

And planned to make it his livelihood

Different from an ordinary carpenter

He likes to upcycle old objects

"Useless furniture is innocent

Useless garbage is blameless"

This is Da Qiao's work philosophy

Once, he met a female client named Zhenzhen

Zhenzhen asked Da Qiao to help her renovate

With limited funds

But she wanted her home to look newer

On the first day of renovation

Da Qiao walked into a convenience store and bought a pack of paper

Then begged the shopkeeper to give him a few fruit crates

After returning, he nailed them together side by side

Fixed them in place with wooden boards around the edges

Hung them on the wall, making a bookshelf

Zhenzhen thought the sofa at home was too old

She didn't want it anymore, but buying a new one exceeded the budget

Later, Da Qiao went to the market and bought a piece of sponge

Tore off a piece of cloth

After returning, he secured all four sides

And a new chair appeared

If you want to upgrade it further

Just insert four pieces of wood and it's done

The living room lacked a coffee table

He took an old cutting board and resanded the surface

Propped up four legs underneath and fixed them in place

A simple, stylish wooden coffee table took shape immediately

Wardrobes, shoe cabinets, storage boxes

All custom handmade

The total cost was less than 5000 yuan

When Zhenzhen saw it, she was completely stunned

Being stunned often leads to romance

Zhenzhen became Da Qiao's beloved girl

In the first two years after retreating from the music scene

Besides handcrafting, Zhenzhen gave Da Qiao great encouragement and support

"May I build a small little castle with you in this life

Fertile fields, plump fish leaping in the lotus pond

Farming and harvesting for warmth and food, relying on each other until death"

Da Qiao also gave Zhenzhen a lifetime vow

Zhenzhen said she wanted a cafe of her own

He alone spent nine days

Renovating a 12 sq m small room

From the ceiling, floor, tables, chairs, stools and lamps, all handmade

Then decorated with a dazzling array of small ornaments

A proper-looking mini cafe was born

She said she had dreamed of a little house

With a transparent roof, full of flowers inside

And a sofa you could curl up on

So he built a loft in the courtyard

Letting her dream come true

After this MINI cafe was built

The next year, he built for Zhenzhen

A real cafe

Named "Disappearing Light-Year"

She said she wanted a different kind of wedding car

He spent 200 hours

Converting a diesel vehicle into a cool wedding car

In the end, they got married in this wedding car

Da Qiao said, "Music and handcrafting really aren't that different

Both require polishing bit by bit, both require dialogue with yourself

Seeking a kind of ultimate craftsmanship"

Later, Da Qiao truly became a hermit carpenter

Leading the "Light-Year Team"

10 people, in Lijiang, more than 2000 km from Beijing

Making all kinds of strange and wonderful furniture

Then placing them in different cities and locations

Letting them grow like children

Creating the "Clear Wind Study"

Cutting off phone communications

Painting, doing handicrafts, playing the guitar

On rainy days, sitting quietly and listening to raindrops on the eaves

There are many more little shacks like this

The "No-Medical Clinic" holds all kinds of medicines

It follows the style of traditional Chinese medicine health cultivation

The "Planet Security Section" is an upgraded version of the security room

A security guard stands at the door specifically to protect the house

Those childish ideas from childhood, realized one by one

2016 came to an end

A little yellow car Da Qiao gave himself

Out with the old, in with the new, going further in the year ahead

Making a wandering home

Cool on the outside, retro on the inside

Filled with all kinds of tools and treasures

Curling up inside, reading and sewing and mending

Boiling an egg and brewing some flower tea

Turning the music up to the max, then singing loudly

Holding a wasteland concert with Xiao Qiao

Standing on the roof practicing tunes

Teaming up with Xiao Qiao to make a "bug house"

Placing it in the woods

Purely for fun

These interesting houses, vehicles

Some are built for himself

Some are built for his client "dads"

They will later be sent to other places

In Lijiang, building "Little Blue" with the team

In Wenzhou, the team buying materials together

Building a house in a tree

In Beijing, building a submarine

A house that can move

When there is free time, practicing tunes together

Da Qiao now

Undisturbed by the noise of the outside world

Immersed in his own world

Building life with his own two hands

Facing other people's questions

His answer is just two words: "I like it"

Some people live in others' expectations

Some people live in their own myths
