Is succulent cutting propagation too difficult? This method makes it simple

We all know that leaf propagation is a method of plant reproduction, and its success rate is very high, but for succulents, choosing leaf propagation seems not so easy. Why is that? It is mainly because we did not do some steps correctly, which leads to this happening. So next I will tell everyone the specific points to pay attention to.

Selection of leaves

We will certainly choose healthy and robust succulent leaves as the object of leaf propagation, but many people do not know what healthy and robust leaves are. In fact, as long as the leaves are relatively thick and look full and very moist, they are what we call healthy and robust leaves. Only such leaves will have a relatively high survival rate. If they are other unhealthy leaves, I advise everyone not to waste effort.

After we choose the leaves, we need to cut them off. At this time, it is best to cut off the entire leaf, because this will be better. If only half is cut off, then the survival rate of the leaf will be relatively low. After we cut off the leaf, we cannot plant it directly. Instead, we need to let the wound of the leaf heal, at least until the tender flesh inside can no longer be seen, and then insert it into the soil.

Selection of soil

The soil we use for leaf cuttings is not random either. It still needs to be prepared carefully, because during leaf propagation there are no roots, and we certainly hope roots will grow quickly. So we can add some nutrient solution or rooting solution, which can promote the leaves to take root. The soil we choose must be breathable and ventilated. This is to allow water to spread through the soil, so no matter where in the soil the roots grow, they can absorb water. Many people will ask, when should we choose relatively dry soil, and when should we choose relatively wet soil?

In fact, all of this needs to be judged according to the actual situation. If the environment we are in has relatively high humidity, then we need relatively dry soil. If it is an environment with relatively low humidity, then we certainly need to supplement water artificially, which leads to us needing relatively moist soil for leaf propagation. The best time for us to do leaf propagation is in autumn. At this time the temperature is suitable, and the humidity is also very suitable, making it very suitable for leaf propagation.

The posture for leaf propagation

Many people do not care about what posture to use for leaf propagation. In fact, there is something to pay attention to. It is not that once we insert the leaf into the soil, we can rest easy. When choosing the posture, there are three kinds. One is placing it obliquely. In fact, this method is what many of us are willing to choose, because if it takes root when placed obliquely, the roots will be very solid, and later we do not need to handle it, but if placed obliquely, the difficulty of rooting will be very great.

If we choose to place it flat, the advantage is that it roots especially quickly. Compared with placing it obliquely, the rooting speed is much faster, but the roots grow outside, and after rooting we need to gently place it into the soil. Another method is to insert it upright into the soil. With this method, the plant's roots will be very firm and it will grow very healthily, but compared with the previous two methods, rooting is even more difficult.
