Growing snake plants in autumn: avoid these 4 pitfalls and they'll immediately send up 11 pups

Huahua has recently noticed that many people around are growing snake plants (Sansevieria). Even though they're tough and easy to care for, you still can't get complacent. Now that autumn has arrived, the peak growing season for snake plants is here. Whatever you do, don't do the 4 things below, or even the toughest snake plant will bite the dust!
Taboo 1: Soil packed too tightly, pups smothered to death
During the growing season, snake plants easily send up a whole cluster of pups. At this point, if your soil is too compacted and hard, the little sprouts will struggle to push through no matter how hard they try! Get moving and loosen the soil right away, don't wait until the sprouts are all suffocated~
1. Loosen the soil by hand
This is easy: take a small trowel and start loosening the soil along the edge of the pot. Be careful not to dig too deep, just loosen the top 3-5 cm. Near the roots, use a smaller tool and loosen slowly so you don't damage the root system.
2. Mix new soil
If your snake plant really needs repotting, you can replace the soil entirely: garden soil : leaf mold : sand/grit = 2:1:1, this ratio works fine. After repotting, water thoroughly to settle the roots, then place it in a cool, shaded spot indoors for 3-5 days and it will acclimate.
Taboo 2: Overindulgent watering, kills it in minutes
Huahua has noticed that plant lovers really love to water, one pot in the morning and another in the evening, and they also like to carry a little watering can around spraying and spraying. This won't do! Even the strongest snake plant will be "stuffed" to death by water.
1. Cut back on water appropriately in autumn
Snake plants are actually quite drought-tolerant. You must stick to watering only when the soil is dry. This not only matches its physiological needs, but also stimulates growth and new pups, training your snake plant to get tougher and tougher!
2. Use a bamboo skewer as a moisture tester
For those who can't tell whether the potting soil is dry or when it's the right time to water, stick a chopstick along the edge of the pot, about 6-8 cm into the soil. Pull it out occasionally to check; if the chopstick is dry, it's time to water.
Taboo 3: Starving it with neglect, no wonder it grows slowly
Snake plants grow fast in autumn and need plenty of nutrients. If you've been complaining about slow growth, give it some nutrients now. Without putting on some bulk, how will it handle autumn and winter~
1. Rice-washing water and soybean water, one watering keeps it thriving for a month
If you grow plants at home, don't forget to always keep rice-washing water and soybean water on hand. Store them in plastic bottles in a corner of the balcony, and they'll be safe to use in just over 2 weeks. When watering, first dilute with water at a 1:20 ratio. Not just for snake plants, all your plants at home can use it.
2. Bury a few soybeans, saves trouble
For those who find liquid fertilizer a bit of a hassle, you can just use soybeans directly, preferably cooked ones. Bury 1-2 beans in each of the four corners of the pot, and remember to cover them with soil. This fertilizer can last for months~
Taboo 4: Always kept indoors, colors fade and it grows leggy
Snake plants come in all kinds of patterns, and if they're not grown well, the markings will disappear too. Especially with insufficient light, the golden color will fade, and the originally wide leaves will grow thinner and thinner~
Give it plenty of light in autumn, leaves grow strong and overwinter with no problem
Temperatures aren't high now, so you can place your snake plant in a bright spot indoors, keeping at least 3 hours of light per day, and it will grow stronger and stronger! A note for plant lovers in the south: when the sun is intense, you still need to provide shade~
